first handgun kill

Trying out new scanner on old pictures.Ten years ago my first handgun kill.Thirty five yards running 629 classic w/Bushnell Holosight.Other than my first bow kill,this was my biggest thrill.By the way,beard and hair are completely white now.

I know it was ten years ago but congrats. I remember my first hangun kill as well. While it wasn't a deer like you got I got a squirrel with my Ruger MKII at 43 yards. Probably a lucky shot. A shot and memory I will never forget.

I know my shot was lucky.I won't even shoot at a running deer anymore.Not even with a rifle.

Thats really a nice first kill with a handgun, I think mine was a racoon with my 629, it was more like pest control than hunting. Cool picture.

Good pic. Sure brings back the memories. I took a nice buck years ago with a Colt SA prewar .44 Special. Pictures are long gone.

Really cool - never hunted with a handgun. That's a photo worth preserving - wish I had more from when I hunted with my dad & uncles. When scanning, I would suggest using the highest resolution that your scanner provides - I did a bunch a while back and to save time, I used the lower (faster) setting and now I can see that I have to do it all over again - use 300-600dpi if possible and then you can resize/touch-up in Photoshop etc.

That day I was using PMC 240 JHP.Don't recommend them.44cal hole in .44cal hole out.Deer went 50yds,had to finish him with second shot.Didn't like that.All previous kills with 30.06 one shot not even a twitch.This one was a liver shot.Next deer killed with same handgun was a doe at 55 yds.with Remington 180gr at 1600fps.above right shoulder.Bullet blew up in chest.Recovered copper jacket only.Deer went 10 feet.Too much the other way I think.Have been using Hornady 240jhp since but haven't had a shot with those yet.From what I have read and been told these should give bettter results.Hopefully I will be able to tell you come December.Thank you for all your comments.

i found 200 - 226 about perfect for close range ... if your long lining with a hand gun .. then we want to get a little heavier ... like 276
