First Model 57

I just wanted to share my latest acquisition. My LGS got this beautiful model 57 in on consignment and priced it where they see most model 57s sell for on GB. They didnt take into account the Coke Stocks or the fact that it is an S prefix model. Closed the deal at $1,070. Can someone help me with dating? Serial number is S2496**

Now i just have to rearrange my safe to fit it in here... It is a good problem to have.

The actual value is probably in the $2750 range, so you purchased the Model 57 at a super price. Your Model 57 probably dates mid-1964 and is definitely a first year gun. Just for information, the revolver points to the left when in the velour-lined presentation case. You have it displayed in the top half of the case.

Thank you so much Bill, thats what i was thinking. I am new to the 57 and this style of case though. Are you sure about the way it sits in the case? I just double checked my Standard catalog and it says for cases (1960-1969), guns faced to the right. Thanks again!
 
That is a beautiful revolver and almost all the goodies that came with it originally. All you need is the bore brush to complete the package if you are inclined to do so. The way you have your safe set up is very impressive. Where did you get the racks? You did well.
 
I don't like you....:) Only because I have not found one yet...dang nice find there and very well bought sir!

Thanks man! I didnt even realize i didnt have the bore brush until you said that. Did S&W make a brush specifically for a 41 mag?

Also, i bought the racks off amazon. They are very cheap. I am experimenting with different styles but i like to have them displayed so i can enjoy them.

Thanks man! I have another safe about the same size but filled with all long guns. I love admiring and organizing my collection as it grows. I just bought the safe this summer so i can spread out. I love display cases but i just cant have all of my collection out in the open so this was a compromise for me and i am really happy with how it looks :)
 
That is a great gun and sounds like you practically stole it .Congratulations and compliments to you for you very tasteful and practical safe set up that is truly nice.

After seeing yours, I want to make paper weights out of my 2 1980 57 NIB no dash examples.

Thanks doc on the value. I probably have one of the few new ones in nickel still unshot. I know it’s not worth what the older ones are worth.
 
My favorite part of this post was the title - OP realizes that this is only the FIRST Model 57 he will be getting!

What a gorgeous gun...and what a deal you got! Congratulations!
