Hey guys, I thought I'd introduce myself by sharing my new-to-me S&W 686 4" revolver. It is a no dash model when I guess means its pre-1986 (meaning its older than me, hah). Also no M stamp.

I gotta say, even though I haven't shot it yet I LOVE the feel of this gun. It just feels so good in the hand, much better than my 1911 or my CZ 75. I have a feeling that there will be more S&W revolvers in my future. Now I just gotta get some reloading supplies for it...

Oh yea, obligatory pictures!

Pictures on your first post... very good. Hello and welcome from Oklahoma.

And a welcome from New Mexico! Boy did you do good for your first S&W. A 686 no dash with a 4 inch barrel and factory targets is a very nice score! This is one you will want to hand down to your kids and grandkids.

Welcome to the forum. Dandy fine gun you got there. Interesting modification to the Target grips.

Yes, I'm pretty happy with it. It has also had a trigger job and the double action is SMOOTH AS BUTTER. Very nice!

What part of New Mexico are you from? My girlfriend and I will be heading to Albuquerque week after next for job interviews (we are both graduating from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine).

Welcome from Texas! My 686+ is one of my favorite revolvers - I have plenty - so will you, now that you started! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW ADDICTION!!!!

Buying guns older than you are is fun - there's something satisfying about enjoying something that existed for years or decades longer than you have. I have a Model 67-1 from 1977 - the year my parents graduated from high school. This will be the first of many S&W revolvers, I'd bet. They truly are addictive.

Great 1st Revolver, and congrats on it being a S&W. Great shooter and you will find that shooting them is much easier than a 1911. If course I like both, LOL.

You pup. I graduated HS in 77. My mustache is older than you.

Finding them older than me is getting hard.

And no, I don't have to shop for flintlocks. Percussion caps had been invented by then.

Welcome to the forum!

Very nice first revolver!

You seem to be, like me, a fan of the 'metal' vs. 'polymer' guns (CZ 75, 1911 & 686)!

Those are nice-lookin stocks, but it looks like someone removed some wood from the butt.

Yes, a few modifications have been made (it was used for competition) but they seem to have been well done. The bottom of the grips have been sanded down, presumably for a better grip. I think it actually fits my smallish hands better than unmodified grips would have.

Welcome to the forum and Congrats on the new gun. I have a 4 inch 686-1 and my dad has a 6 inch 686-4 and we both love them. Like others have stated, this will not be your last, enjoy your new addiction.
