first post - need advise on a model 17

I like blued guns. I think if you get the model 17 or model 18 you will be happy with your decision.
I would be willing to bet this is not your last Smith & Wesson.
Anyway, welcome

I had a #18 and hated it, although I love my #17. I'm a hunter/shooter. The #18 was expensive to feed and chronographed velocities were less than .22 LR that were shot from a rifle, only about 200 fps greater than .22LR. out of my #17. Muzzle blast was much more. I thought that the #18 was all bark and very little bite. For sure there wasn't enough of a performance advantage to outweigh the additional cost of the ammo. If I wanted increased performance over the #17 then reloads out of my #14 were much more powerful and a lot cheaper.

I suspect that somebody is thinking about an M48 while comenting on an M18. Heck, I used to think "18" when I was 48 too. -S2

As for the gun not being around long, it's been a wonderment to me that guys see a nice piece that is hard to find in good condition but they leave it just sit there while they made a decision. That only happened to me a couple of times because when I went back to the lgs the gun was gone. I've made it a habit to put a few bucks down to hold it while I mulled it over or sought more info. Doing this has saved me a lot of anguish believe me. And to the op good luck with your decision........Dan.
