I am lusting for a Smith & Wesson M& P 15/12 but can not decide upon what model?

My three I am eyeing are, leaning towards the two model that list forr $609.00.

Pros? Cons?

What is a good retail price for said M & P's?

A stock A1, non-moe 15-22 should run you about $400. Go with that.

I would get the basic model with threaded barrel... model #811033. That gives you a great platform to start with & can then upgrade components later as you see fit. Some folks start with the MOE versions but I personally would not do that as some of the Magpul parts they use are not the top of the line... such as the stock. Sounds good to have their backup sights, however with time I have dropped my backups & only use red dot with magnifier.

I definitely agree with this.

Depends on your budget and how much money you want to spend out on the rifle. I have the original M&P 15-22LR that I modified heavenly and more to come.

I'm with Wolfman and USMCHeros, get the MOE FDE version.

I have essentially built a MOE FDE after buying the A1 version not knowing anything about the 15-22. If I knew what I know now I would have passed and got the MOE.

If FDE isn't your thing the black is nice and slick too; I went with the MOE black for my M&P15.

Then I'd say grab 3-7 more mags and a bunch of ammo, and go have some fun.

Buddy of mine went with the base model. After shooting it for the 1st time, I fell in love. I went with MOE FDE. I was really wanting all black, but the FDE grew on me and all I like now :) If I had to do it all over again, I would not hesitate and go with the MOE FDE again.

That's not a sale..it's overpriced by $120.

I used that order link 2 weeks ago and my total cost was $450.99 + 6% sales tax. That is close to the same price my local Walmart's sell the non flash suppressed model.

If you have never used Gallery Of Guns, you don't get the actual sale price without entering your Zipcode and looking at each dealers offer, it's not the suggested retail price.

Another vote here for the regular threaded barrel version. Unless you absolutely have to have the QD sling attachment on the receiver. The Magpul MOE things are nice, better than stock for sure. But... $1000 is a healthy budget for a 15-22. You can do better than the MOE parts, as those are actually the bottom of Magpul's offerings.

Personally, I much prefer the CTR stock to the MOE stock, and even the MOE+ grip is (to me) way better than the MOE grip. If I were you I'd get the Non MOE version and put my own upgrades in, the ones I choose.

Exactly. The MOE is a nice gun, however as you say, S&W is using the bottom of Magpul's offerings. How many people would start with a basic 811033, and then pick the same stock & grip as on the MOE? I doubt many would. Most would go with the higher end, better product, such as you mentioned. I too have upgraded to the CTR stock & MOE + grip.

I guess the point is, if I'm gonna use Magpul gear, which I do on my AR & 15-22, then it is gonna be their best stuff... not bottom of the line. My dad always told me it was better to buy the best once, and that applies here IMO.
