First Snow 2013

I didn't get pictures but it was snowing here in Saint Louis MO from 12:30-3:30 this morning.

We're supposed to get a hard freeze at 27* down here in South Mississippi tonight. Lows will be 30* tomorrow night and then back in the 40's and 50's for the next several days. Seldom see snow and when we do everything shuts down.

I was playing GI Joe for the Navy in the winter of 1976 in Mississippi and it snowed on us. It was my first time in the deep south and for the 2 years previous I was in SE Asia or San Diego except for Toledo on leave. I thought I was going to freeze! Truly unprepared, I thought it would be nice like So. Cal.

Snowing here now, it started about 9:15, I was out fishing.:(

Yep! A good dusting of snow overnight and the roads were covered in black ice as I drove in at 5:45 this morning. It's still only 28*!

A sure sign of things to come.

The ground is mostly covered in my area of the U.P.
But it's not the first snow. That was back in October before
Halloween.

Lots of mountain ash berries this year.
The Finns also have big woodpiles, so it may be a hard winter.

drove home from dsm yesterday afternoon in a snowstorm. farther south I got the worse it was. Tulsa was 65 sunday and dsm was about 25.

Roundgunner: I grew up in Connecticutg. It looks lovely. Talk about the hills of home!

Got some snow here last night. A few traces still on the ground on the drive in to work this morning.
It's the earliest I ever remember it snowing here in my 35 years.

We had a light snow here in northern Illinois on Monday, and its been cold enough for the snow to stick around. For me, snow means putting the motorcycle away for the winter, and getting ready to slog through another gloomy season. At least my shooting club is indoors, so a flick of the heater switch and I am ready to go. If it weren't for the reality that my house is still worth far less than I paid for it 8 years ago, and that this location is sort-of midway between three of my grown kids and grandkids, I'd be out of here for someplace where I would never have to cover my motorcycle. I guess I'm becoming a grumpy old guy, but seeing the first snow sure doesn't make me think any happy thoughts!

Hope all we get this year is snow. I can live with that just don't want the ice. Had a few flurries here nothing you could take a picture of. Been getting a lot of high wind though, blowing the chickens all over the place. Be getting scrambled eggs out of the shell if it blows any harder.
