Well today I finally went to the range to fire my new M&P 9 FS that I purchased a few weeks ago. It seems like all I read lately was about new M&P's that FTE, FTF, stovepipes and so on.

I ran 100 rounds of Federal Champion 115gr FMJ and 100 rounds of Remington UMC 115gr FMJ. This was the first time I fired a handgun in 30 years, so I wasn't concerned about accuracy today, but more about reliability.

Anyway, I'm very pleased to announce that the M&P ran flawlessly!!! I was pleasantly surprised that my accuracy was pretty darn good considering my 30 year lapse.

Welcome back after 30 years :D. You'll find that you hear more of the negative stories than positive ones, probably because the majority are too busy shooting to write stories. I thought I was the exception because I shoot around 50K rounds a year through a M&P (various models) and can count on one hand the number of failures I've had (and most, if not all, of those were ammo related). I shoot a couple of matches a week and just marvel at all the problems the "other" brands of pistols have.

Ralph,
Congratulations on the new tool! I think if you set aside the teething issues associated with the shield and ammo related full-size issues, the M&Ps have proven incredibly reliable. There have been some recent threads where folks have had an issue, but the jury may still be out regarding the cause. My wife an I are approaching 3000 rounds total among 4 m&pfs with nary an issue and this is nothing compared to what others have run through their M&P.
Happy shooting,
Rick

50K rounds, WOW, so I have to ask what have you needed to replace? Or do you retire the pistal? You must reload unless you are sponsored.

I have run about 600 rounds through a .40FS and had two FTF on factory rounds. Out of the 600 about 450 are my reloads. I have run 350 round of reload through my shield .40 and no issues what so ever.

Trigger return spring (it broke at about 45K) , striker assembly (started to get light strikes at about 40K). Pistol still shoots as well as it ever did, don't plan on retiring it. If it wears out, I'll send it back to S&W for an overhaul.

That is impresive....

I didn't have time to clean it yesterday, but today it got a good bath.

I am a new member to this forum and wanted to say HI!

I also have a new M&P 9FS that I purchased Feb. 2014. I haven't done any real pistol shooting since I left the Army almost 40 years ago (MP with 1911 experience). I have over 600 rounds through this gun and it is a nice performer.

I noticed you (RalphMP9FS) shoot at Rink's Gun shop and that is where I usually go to get some live fire practice. Maybe I will run into you sometime.

I'm looking forward to going again. I purchased a laser sight today and should have it sometime late next week. It will be fun playing with it at the range.

I usually try to make two trips to the range per month. I have plans on going tomorrow afternoon with a shooting friend. I want to start and break-in my new M&P 45FS. My friend is bringing his Kimber 1911 Team Match and will let me try it out.

In the future if I see a laser dot bobbing around at Rink's, I'll stop by and ask if its you.
