Hey Everyone,

I'm Patrick, first time post. So I am purchasing my first pistol. I own a nice Remington 700 SPS w/Tactical Barrel in 308. I shot quite a few guns. I was going to purchase a 9mm. I tried a Glock 17 & 19. Ruger SR9. On a whim I shot a S&W M&P40 Pro. I fell in love. I decided that S&W going to be my first pistol purchase.

After reading reviews, watching videos. I decided that I wanted to go with S&W M&P40L Pro C.O.R.E. in case I ever wanted to but a sight, or rail accessory. I am very hands on, so I like that I am able to do the addition and do not have to send to a gun smith.

I was curious what other more experienced shooters thought, and if I am making a good decision.

The C.O.R.E is a good base to start with. Certainly a solid gun and very easy to work on if you're a mechanically minded individual.

I'm not a fan of the tall sights. They are that tall in order to co-witness with an optic. If you don't have an optic, they just look a little high to me. That is just an opinion not a critique.

All in all I think you are making the right choice to go with the M&P.

Any recommendations on a holster. I was thinking about a SERPA holster. Also I wanted a rail laser sight. Any suggestions are welcomed?

I have a Core 9L, I've gotten used to the taller sights when I shoot IDPA ESP but I use a Deltapoint for everything else (USPSA and Steel Challenge). My thought process sounds the same as yours. I wanted the ability to use an optic if I chose to. I used it without the reflex for 6 months or so, then I got the optic. It's a good way to go.

Holster depends on what you're using it for. I have a Blade Tech OWB for IDPA and a Blade Tech competition for everything else.

I wanted use this as a PDW. I was thinking a shoulder carry. I do a lot of driving, and a waist holster could be uncomfortable. Of course I'll only carry concealed in my permitted states and areas.
