I love my M&P 40. Probably 4,000rds down the pipe with no problems, not one ftf or fte. Only mods are Apex upgrades.

Decided to buy a shield and found a .40 the other day and shot it today for the first time. After the third round I noticed something was missing...the front sight dot! My Glock and Ruger friends that I had been bragging to for a week were almost peeing their pants laughing.

I'm sure that they will warranty it or I can paint it, but seriously...what the heck is up with that?

Here's a pic so nobody can say i'm a troll or "pics or it didn't happen". You dont need a pic of the sight, its just black with no center dot.

If your shield is for carry, dump the stock sights, replace with night sights and call it good.

That sucks, but I would just get past it. My locking block roll pin worked its way out the second time I took the Shield out to shoot. S&W sent me two new replacement pins. It is a great gun, enjoy it.

How long did it take S&W to get the pins out to you? I'm having the same problem and I'm waiting for replacement pins to show up in the mail. Did a new pin fix the problem?

Mine popped out also after about 20 rounds. Problem is not just the Shield but all the M&P's. This is not a new problem as it has been going on for a long time. Evidently, S&W doesn't care or they would have corrected by now.
I just repainted mine with some of my wifes craft paint. I did change the color to a bright yellow. If it comes out again, I'll try something different like fingernail polish or model paint. You can also get craft paint that glows in the dark. I think you can also buy glow paint designed to paint fishing lures.

Had mine for about 2 months. One day at home I pulled it out of my holster to put away for the night and noticed a rear sight dot missing. A dab of white nail polish on a toothpick fixed it and I can't even tell which one it was

I understand that it can be replaced but I just feel that a $450 pistol should have this happen as a common occurrence.

I was already looking at some TFOs though

They should start marketing it as a feature, as many of them (not just shields, but all M&Ps) have this attribute. LOL

Never happened to me, but I dump stocks for XS Big Dots on my pistols as soon as I get them.

Welcome! :)

I agree that a brand new gun shouldn't have that problem or any other. Give S&W a call & let them know then paint the dot back on using white out or anything else. I also agree that a set of night sights will solve the problem but that could cost you some bucks. I feel fortunate that I ordered my M&P 40C with Trijicon night sites.

Agree. Shouldn't happen. But unfortunately that's how a lot of otherwise good guns are leaving the factory now.

I'd just paint it and drive on.

I think there must be a defect with my new 9mm Shield. I read a post from a guy in another thread that had the same situation.
I took it to the range for the first time Saturday, 100 rounds later... it still has 3 dots. Any ideas?

In all seriousness, after reading of so many "lost dots", I'll be surprised if mine stay intact.

My guess is that whomever is making the standard sights is not adequately cleaning and prepping the holes in the sights prior to applying the white. That's a "process problem" that may come down to whichever worker is doing the job that shift.

S&W still needs to address the issue as it's costing both money to replace the sights, and also "reputation points."

Frankly, I'd rather have another color for at least the front sight anyway, so either painting or replacing the sights seems the way to go.

The exact same thing happened to me.

I took the Shield out to the indoor range to break it in. Was dead center initially and then suddenly started shooting low. Chalked it up to fatigue but then when I went to re-load I noticed that my front sight was gone!

I initially used some Testor white paint to fill it in which worked well but I had planned all along to install Tru Glo night sights (which I did this week).

The front dot came off of my sheild the first time at the range.About 9 months later the right rear dot came off.Repainted both.

I understand how you feel, it shouldn't happen. I just repainted mine with some model paint. Make sure you clean the hole good with some alcohol first.
Let me just say, $450 for a shield, you got a good deal in this market.

It's getting to the point that "My Dot Fell Out" needs it's own sticky. ALL my dots are still intact and doing quite well. I even scrub them when I clean to have a brighter sight.

My shield sight dots haven't fallen out yet and in a preventative measure I put a small dot of super glue on each shield sight dot. Not sure if it will prevent the dot from falling out but figured it was at least worth a try.
