First timer with a question or two

Hello to all,
After much reading and comparison, two days ago I opted to purchase what I considered to be the best of the lot, the S&W M&P15-22 and did so without regret or second guessing. At the same time, I purchased the CAA brand Ergonomic Forearm Vertical Grip with finger grooves and it is very comfortable. I would like a similar arrangement for the rifle grip itself. The dealer I bought this from (Cabala's) did not have anything that would fit, according to the salesman. Does anyone have a suggestion where I might find one that would fit the 15-22? Brand and
I'd also like to read some thoughts on fitting a reasonably priced scope to be used primarily for target plinking and fun.

By "rifle grip", I assume you mean pistol grip. Almost any mil-spec AR-15 grip will fit. I prefer Magpul MOE+, but pistol grip preference is a very subjective thing.

When you're ready to replace the grip, keep in mind that you will have TWO springs to keep track of, instead of just one like a real AR-15. Since there is no endplate/castle nut on a 15-22 to secure the rear take down pin spring, it's held on the 15-22 by the pistol grip, along with the safety lever spring. Remove the pistol grip slowly and carefully, or these springs can go flying off into the ether, never to be seen again.
Opinions on scopes/optics also vary, but I prefer an unmagnified (1x) red dot, since the 15-22 is not a long distance tack driver.

These are usually called "sprongs" which is the sound they make as they disappear into the carpet or distant corner of the room or into your pants cuff, etc. Also be aware that there is a plunger beyond the sprong which can fall out later and disappear.

I have this on good first-hand knowledge.

Seriously any grip that fits an AR should fit the 15-22 with one qualifer. If the grip has a molded extention that fits the web between the thumb and fore finger and extends upward along the radius under what would be the Buffer Tube, there will be a small gap here as the 15-22 is slightly different. Still functional, still comfortable, but a gap. Doesn't bother me since most time is spent looking at the sights rather than the grip.

as far as scopes, it all depends on the distance you will be shooting and how much you want to spend. 25 yards I would recommend a red dot. bushnell makes a good one. 50+ yards I would recommend a good multi power scope. I shoot 25-100 yards and use a utg 3-12x scope. it is a little on the heavy side but I like the illuminated reticle.Leapers UTG AccuShot SWAT Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 3-12x 44mm Illuminated

I would recommend shooting with the factory sights for a while to get the feel for it first. you may end up liking them.
