Being cast as Spenser, revival of the Robert B Parker character played by Robert Urich. I like him as an actor, but he's really out of character here. I suppose they'll get Chris Rock or Kevin Hart as Hawk.

Samuel L. Jackson for Hawk. Kevin Hart could play Hawk if the character reminisces about his childhood.

The originals son Skeet should get first dibs. Or Eastwoods kid, a whole lot cheaper too.
I used to think Skeet Ulrich was Robert Ulrich's son but they aren't related. In fact the kid invented that name.
I just shook my head and rolled my eyes when Mark Walberg played the Chuck Heston role in the later Planet Of The Apes.

Has Hollywood and the TV guys run out of ideas for new shows? They just want to make remakes which are almost never as good the 2nd time around. I did like the new True Grit better, more realistic, sorry John Wayne.
I agree, and you're closer to Indian Territory than I am and it did look a lot like Colorado when John Wayne was tracking "Ned Pepper".

WELL RAISE MY RENT.

Not only are they not related, their names are spelled differently.

Robert U-r-i-c-h

Skeet U-l-r-i-c-h

For me, Spenser, as characterized by Robt. Parker, was a 50/50 cross of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe (quick witted and sarcastic) and Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer (tough as nails with a Gunny's temperament). Robert Urich never made me believe in the character.

Tom Cruise??? Mark Wahlberg??? You've got to be kidding! Neither one of them have the presence, look, style or panache to pull it off. I can't even think of anyone in Hollyweird who could.

Don't get me started! Still trying to get over the remake of "True Grit" with "The Dude" playing the role of "The Duke".

No, Cruise and Wahlberg have no place in a Robert B. Parker "Spenser" movie.

I think I've been misunderstood. The reference to Tom Cruise was as Jack Reacher, the first major miscast. Wahlberg follows as Spenser.

On a side note, Robert Urich's wife, Heather Menzies, passed away recently. She had portrayed one of the Von Trapp children in "The Sound Of Music".

Urich was one of the four rookie motorcycle cops in "Magnum Force."

I was confused about the setting in the original. I thought it was supposed to be Colorado.

I suppose the remake was better from an authenticity standpoint, and no question Matt Damon was an improvement over Glenn Campbell.

It's still hard to top the Duke for entertainment, though. I also liked Jeff Corey as the alternately cocky and whiny Tom Chaney.

Parker portrayed Spenser as a regular weightlifter and ex-boxer, and the gym in Boston is an important anchor location for the novels; Robert Urich didn't really fit that vibe, although he did fine elsewise. Hawk and Susan were perfectly cast.

It appears that folks here are unaware that Robert Urich hasn't been the only Spenser.

Around 2000 there were a few movies with Joe Mantegna as Spenser. Now THAT was a mis-cast.

I don't remember Urich as Spenser, I don't really remember Spenser at all. I do recall Urich in Vegas. I really liked him in Vegas. Awesome t-bird he parked in his garage/apartment.

"By God, Dude, that's a Colt's Dragoon!!". I loved both versions, but the newer one the most because it was like the book. And the little girl wasn't annoying like the first one.

I also remember Urich in Vegas.
He wore enough clothes to go deer hunting in the UP.
I have lived in Vegas.
And I have gone deer hunting in the UP.
