I recently acquired this model 36 no dash and need help. Would like to know about its production time and other info about it. Its my first wheel gun and love it. The gentleman told me somewhere around 25 years old. Never shot. Possibly a carry piece but undecided yet what I'll do. Also need advice to keep it in pristine condition regarding oil and cleaning cloth material to wipe or if and any polish for wood grips. SN ACJ54XX. Thanks folks, any info greatly welcomed.

Congratulations!

Since the only way to keep it pristine is not to shoot or carry it, you have to decide whether it will be a user or a safe queen.

I'd shoot it. What's the use of having things that you don't or can't use?

Shoot it! That's what was made for.

It always amazes me how people will buy a $25-50,000 car, or sometimes much more, that depreciates 10-20% ($2,500-$10,000) by the time you drive it off the lot, but will always want to know how to to keep their $700 revolver like new so their "investment" doesn't lose value! In 20 years the gun may be worth more than it cost, even with wear & tear, and sometimes outright abuse. The car will be doing well to still be worth 10% by then, if it hasn't been scrapped yet! I'm sorry, but that is simply beyond silly!

I think I have to shoot it and carry. I called S&W and got an estimate 1983 manufacture. Plus side is its brand new and all character added to it is from me.
