Flame sear

I was looking at a 686-1at the lgs.The pistol is tight and timing is right hardly any play in the cyl.Then I noticed that it has alittle flame sear had to look close to see it.The cost is $399. My question is since it has alittle cut will it spread quickly?It will be a shooter if I buy. He also has a 4 in python that is BEAUTIFUL for $1400.The 686-1 is cheap but I dont know how fast the sear will move.I was wondering if anyone has any experince with flame sear.I will take a magnifire with me and look at it again.There is alot of 686 pistol out there it is -1 that caught my eye.

Flame cutting gets to a point where it stops growing.I wouldn't worry about it.

IF you're referring to flame cutting of the top strap arjay is 100% correct that it just stops at a certain (non-critical) point. It does however show the gun has a bunch of rds thru it. Look at the forcing cone too.

I assume you are talking about gas/flame cutting in the topstrap. If that is what you are seeing I would not expect it to progress beyond the point it is at this time. After they develop, they will typically fill with fouling material that actually serves to protect them. My 686-3 also has this and it has been chugging along OK since I got it in 1993.

The price sounds pretty good; they go for that or a bit more around here. The 586/686 series is tough with a capital T and you will get many years of service from it. The L frame was built around the .357 and to me it is ideal for that round.

Thanks that is what I was talking about above forcing cone on top strap. The forcing cone looks good. I t has a small amount of cut. For the price $399 everything else looks good just has the flame sear. Thanks for the info! Gman 56
