Heya Folks,

New user here, though been trolling and absorbing all the great info. Picking up my M&P 15-22 next week!

So being in California, I see there are limitations, such as 10 rd. mag capacity and non-threaded barrels (no suppressors, ugh).

Are there aftermarket flash hiders that bolt/cinch onto the end of the barrel or all of them threaded on? I happened to purchase the base model w/o the flash hider ...

Tnx.

15-22 is Rimfire meaning you can have a threaded barrel in California. I live in Cali and have a threaded barrel with screw on/off flash hider. If you live in So-Cal I know a gunsmith that will thread your barrel for $30 bucks while you watch. Just shoot me a PM if you want his info.

$30 gunsmith to thread M&P 15-22

Scuds03,

I live in southern CA, H.B., and would like that gunsmith name and telephone number to thread my S&W M&P 15-22.

Thanks

Having your barrel threaded is far and away the best option. Make sure they indicate the bore of the barrel and not the outside. Most of the time the bore is not EXACTLY in the center. Exactly to a tool and die maker that is.

DefenderTC - this is the guy. http://www.ar15barrels.com/services-order-form.pdf For the life of me I can't find a phone number on his site.

I contacted Scuds by PM and got this information. For me in San Diego County, it's a no-go. For you in H. Beach, it's doable.

Here are some options;
1) You could always take your barrel into the local machine shop and have them "single point" the threads for you. 1/2-28 x .625 long is standard.
You want a class 2A thread, class 3A if they are experienced. They should have a machinery's handbook and thread wires to do the job properly.
2) They can custom fit the threads to your flash hider, but they will really only fit that part and may not fit anything else.
3) If they want to use a die, go (run) somewhere else.

Scuds03 & john16433,

Thanks for the contact info for ar15barrels. I December 8 priority mailed my S&W M&P 15-22 upper with check to Randall at: AR15barrels, PO Box 66281, Mar Vista, CA 90066 for barrel threading. It's strange Randall has no telephone contact info, but based on good reviews here at S&W forums, and $30 for barrel threading plus return shipping, I went for it. Local Bolsa Gunsmithing, Westminster, CA wanted $150 to do the barrel threading! I will keep all posted on how the barrel threading works out with ar15barrels.

True Shot Technologies makes a AR stile Flash Hider for the 15-22 That is non threaded and works very well.It is mounted using set screws,no barrel threading is necessary.
