"Flat Latch" history

I've got two flat latches (J Frames) but haven't actually seen any in person on K Frames. I guess they were less popular on the larger frame guns.

Consistent with it's -2 model number and date, yours is wearing the 7th -- and last -- flat style thumbpiece.

Here's one of the original .38 M&P Airweights with the aluminum cylinder and 1st flat style thumbpiece. It's s/n C237414 (somewhat early in the aluminum cylinder range, according to Dr. Jinks, C190000 - C310000), and it shipped to the George F. Cake Company in Berkeley, Calif., on November 25, 1953.
