Flat latch, square butt Model 36

I got this old warrior a couple of months ago. The serial number - 166861 - lands in kind of a blank spot in the SCSW. It shows 1957 ending with 125000 and 1962 ending with 295000.

I am a 1959 edition myself, so it would be cool if this gun was, too. Has anyone lettered one in this general area?

Great find! I have the same but newer serial #3966xx. Bought it from the armored car company I worked for when they were disposing of older firearms. I already had the vintage pre zip code Tyler T. I have the original grips but they are a little beat up.
If someone is looking up serial numbers I wouldn’t mind an approximate date either.

166320 shipped October, 1959. Yours possibly shipped around that same time frame, give or take a few months.

Sounds like a win all around. I've got a flat latch as well close to the serial number range of the one of Baxter6551. It came as is with the Herrets.

I have a 3" round butt flat latch, SN 2032**, close as I can find out was from 1960. Your old warrior looks in great condition.

Close to yours, and identical, is 167120. S&W shipped it in October 1959.
166430 also shipped in October 1959, but I don't know if it's a SB.

158956 shipped on May 27, 1959, but it's a 3" two-tone.

From the old Firearm Database on the S&WCA side of this forum,
396602 shipped in September 1965. Whoever listed it back then
didn't include any details.
