I decided to take my AR180B (house gun for social events
) and sight the new holosight in at 25 yds. It is my house gun after all, and the 223 sighted in @ 25yds is good for a bit more.
Anyhow, while my friend was getting his new AR sighted in, I moved my target back to 50 yds and broke out the 17HMR. At that time I put some bait ( whipped cream and starbucks frappuchino) on the target hoping to draw in some flies for some target practice.
Well, the wind picked up and not a single fly took the bait, I was skunked today. It got to the point where I would put a little 17 cal hole in the target and use that for my aim point and try to make tiny groups. Every time I shoot this little bullet I am amazed at the surgical precision of the shots you can make. You don't just shoot at the target, I was shooting at the numbers for the rings and hitting them.
So, I did get to kill some paper, but was really wanting some flies. Nothing like a small moving target to practice trigger and gun control with. It you wait too long they leave, too fast and you will miss.
Does anyone else do things like that to keep your skills up?
My friend thought I was crazy for even trying it, but then again he is just getting into shooting and is learning his way around the AR.
Or am I crazy, as he and my wife insist?!?
