I like them both, but if it is a night stand gun that you might need to use in a semi awake situation the revolver is simpler for many people to operate. JMTS

Ok, what is the difference in a 'semi awake situation' if I have a revolver or lets say a 5904 that the round is chambered , hammer has been dropped and in the fire position ? Both are ready to go with a DA pull . Other than a extra 8 or 9 rounds in the 5904 and I will have to remember to drop the hammer after the shoot (if I didn't empty the gun) . I don't see how a revolver is a better choice , it's just a preference.

For personal carry, I prefer revolvers, especially an airweight J-frame, like a Model 38 or 638 for pocket carry. For inside the house, especially at night, my choice was a S&W M&P 40c equipped with combination fiber optic / night sights, Crimson Trace laser grips, and a S&W Micro 90 flashlight. I also use the full sized magazine, rather than the compact one for increased ammunition availability. To me, this about as good as it gets for a home defense handgun.

Smith and wesson governor is what I have. But like Poorbroker said, both would be fine.

I favor semi autos for HD. Uou can mount a light and or night sights. Hard to aim in the dark with iron sights

I use both. My go pistol is my 1086 DAO 10mm. I keep a round in the chamber so it is just like a revolver with 9 rounds of Kick A**.
I also keep a 649-3 357 mag with a CT grip for at night.
Plus my shotguns with double 00. My wife keeps a S&W 910 with 9mm+P and a 64 DAO 4" with +p.

There is a certain nostalgia in revolvers, but I still prefer a semi for self-defense. The capacity for size ratio (a Glock 19 - 15 shot mag - is not much bigger than a J frame, while the Glock 17 - 17 shot mag - takes up the same real estate as a 2 1/2 inch K frame), generally lighter trigger pull on the striker fired guns and the softer feeling recoil all adds up to one conclusion: The semi is the way to go for self-defense.

In my NS there is a 38 spcl snub..AND an M&P 40 FS,just depends on which one I grab first.
In my wifes NS there is an SD 40VE And a BG 380...BAD GUYS NOT WELCOME HERE!
