For movie nerds: Belmondo has passed

The French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo died at age 88 today.

He and his films were never that well known in the US, but in Europe and other parts of the world, back in the 1970s/80s especially, he personfied French action movies, the way James Bond personfied British action movies, and as well known.

His career actually started around 1960, including theater and screen, but I wasn’t watching a lot of French movies back then

Best remembered is the 6” Colt Python he wielded in “The Professional” (1981) …..

…. but he also used different hardware.

Watched a couple of his movies many years ago. Good actor.

He was also the lead in "Is Paris Burning?" a great WWII movie from 1966.

Liked him very much.

One of my favorite films is
"Borsalino" with Belmondo
and Alain Delon. Paired, they
were the slickest film
gangsters ever.

His poster caused me to search out and purchase a pack of Gauloises Caporal. He was cool.

I remember seeing him in only one movie, L'homme de Rio (That Man From Rio). I am sorry to hear of his passing. I took a French class in college, and one of the assignments was to watch the movie and write a report on it in French. I liked the movie, and I did well in the class.

Breathless. Jean Seberg in real life was a bit of a nut, but she was gorgeous and that can sometimes make up for one's other shortcomings.

Belmondo with the hat, the cigarettes and the attitude seemed more like a Frenchman playing an American playing a Frenchman, but I liked his performance anyway. Not so sure about his choice of weapons.

Yes, Caporal is correct. I just thought Disque Bleu sounded cooler.
