Hickey & Boggs (1972)

Beats me. Never saw it before. Currently available streaming for free on Tubi. It has an amazing cast of characters from other 70's and later classics.

Leading men:
Robert Culp
Bill Cosby

We know who they are.

"I Spy" was canceled by this time so I guess they are trying to keep their fame alive. They play a couple of LA private detectives.

They both have very long barreled revolvers. Cosby a Colt I can't identify and Culp a Model 29 8 3/8" I believe. It's kind of hilarious they lose the shoulder holsters and carry them in their hands wrapped in a towel or newspaper. ???? What is up with that?

Other notable supporting actors:

Bill Hickman: Stuntman/Actor. The driver of the Dodge Charger in "Bullitt".

James Wood: I remember him as the snarky traitorous Secret Service agent in “White House Down” but he’s been in a lot of movies.

Dean Smith: Another stuntman. Former Olympic Track and Field Gold Medalist, NFL athlete, and rodeo cowboy who was a stunt double for Gene Autry and a lot of John Wayne movies. A member of the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. He really has too many accomplishments to list here. Probably not well known outside of Texas but his resume outclasses everybody else in this movie.

Ed Lauter: I remember him as the sadistic Captain of the Guards in the original (Burt Reynolds) “Longest Yard”. Squirrelly bald guy.

Vincent Gardenia: The miserable NYPD Detective in the original Charles Bronson “Death Wish” movies.

Michael Moriarty: You’ll know him as the gold miner in “Pale Rider” that Clint Eastwood befriends.

There’s a shoot out at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum the day after a game. There’s game day footage before that. There's also game day footage of a Dodgers game.

Pertinent shootout/gun display scenes at:
42:30
55:00
1:04:30
1:12::12
1:35:50...to the end. Right at 1:47:40 there's a good image of Cosby's Colt.

Just a remarkable cast for the vintage film fan with some great locations. Not saying it's a gripping storyline.

Makeshift revolver silencer? Hollywood style!

I remember seeing it in the theaters when it was there for about three minutes. I had one heck of a time rounding it up on video a few years ago.
A forerunner of the Crockett-Tubbs dynamic but on the really seedy side.
I always liked Robert Culp. Disappointed/conflicted/disgusted by Cosby given what has transpired. Still liked the movie.

I remember seeing it decades ago at the theater and in 1972 I would have been 13. I remember the shiny Smith .44 mag, the big Colt New Service .45, a guy firing out of the back of a station wagon with a S&W M76 9mm submachinegun and helicopter with an M-60 shooting at Robert Culp and Bill Cosby. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but that was a long time ago.
