I know a lot of the photogs here use Renaissance Wax on their guns to help bring out and protect the finish.

For what it's worth I've found Johnson's Paste Wax works just as good, and it's way cheaper. I think I paid < than $5 for a 1lb can which will probably last a lifetime and then some. Works good on grips and holsters too!!!

One minor issue with what you have stated is that you have to remember where you put the can!

I am on my second can, the first being inherited from my Dad, and will hopefully find it when I forget where the present (2nd) can is?

I use Butcher's Carnauba Wax.

On both wood and metal. It leaves a hard finish that is very resistant to moisture and fingerprints. Just be careful with checkering; you'll need a toothbrush or equivalent to get it out.

I've never tried gun waxing but it sounds like a way to protect them from the elements. Is it necessary to completely de-grease the metal parts before applying the wax?.......B.

But Ren. Wax is pH neutral.
I like the Ren Wax better than the RIG I was using for blued guns as it doesn't show the finger print smudges. But I still throw a coat of RIG on for outdoor use.

I lost my house to a tornado on February 5th a year ago. My guns were in the closet with me but I couldn't get back to them for three days(rubble and lingering bad weather, also important things to take care of). It rained hard all three days and the guns were soaked. I had just started to wax (Johnson's PW) and half of the guns were waxed and the others were covered with a high end oil preservative. The guns that were waxed had no rust while the others had varying degrees of rust. I now wax all of my guns, even my EDCs. I used to use RW but I also found Johnson Wax (Yellow can) to be as effective (and easier to obtain.)I am a believer!
