looks like a great read.

My father told me Al Capone use to drive through the Italian neighborhoods and toss silver dollars to the kids. This helped him generate support in the Italian neighborhoods.

Thanks for the heads-up, but it sounds like a rehash of Bryan Burrough's "Public Enemies."

That is a good read. Plenty of tales to cover, though, so I'll give Oller's book a go as well.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, The Highway Men, on Frank Hamer hunting down Bonnie and Clyde, is really good. Netflix, I think.

I recall back in the sixties watching Elliott Ness and the Untouchables. Rat-a-tat-tat! Loved it!

This is Fred Lambert, a well known Cimarron, NM Law Dog.
This picture hangs at the NRA Whittington Center.
So if I could meet him -
Fred, got to ask- do you always wear your Gun like that?
Red Nichols, the renowned (and cranky!) holster designer has explained on our gunleather subforum that the old timey gunmen were encouraged by old timey photographers to move their pistols to the fore to make 'em more obvious in the photo. I bet that is what is going on.

We have gone from a time 40 to 50 Years ago where there were few books on the Depression era to now where there many good books and yes each Author is different and brings slight differences no matter what to the same subjects. Research is tough and some Authors slide on research. Some are excellent researchers and will go the extra mile to get the correct information and facts. Both Mr. Burrough and Mr. Oller are good Authors but from my experience with the two books on this period I would have to say Mr. Oller wins the race on research.
