a 3" 657 in an ankle holster for me
for those who carry an N-Frame

This is daily wear. 329PD, with 6 warm loaded 240 gr. Lasercast SWC, over a heavy dose of 2400, in the cylinder. A cartridge wallet with 12 more of the same thing.
In the speedloader, are 6 factory, early 1970's vintage Norma 240 gr. Power Cavity steel jacketed softpoints. Yup, I have a few left. I have also fired 2 out of my 329.
The recoil is HORRIBLE. That is with the X frame grips on it too. But, if a feral hog and I are dueling for 1st. place on the food chain, I am sure I won't feel the recoil.
The 329 is carried in a Bianchi 111 Cyclone holster, held down by a Bianchi 1/4" thick Contour belt.

For years I've carried a 5" 629 Classic in a SafariLand holster -- A belt rig but fairly high-ride. The belt is a 2" 3 ply nylon w/plastic insert that's VERY stiff and that surely helps.

I am new to the forum and I bring a gift. I am a life long S&W fan. My first pistol on my 21st birthday in 1987 was a new 669. I do not have an N frame. I have J and K frames. I bought Hogue Monogrips for an N frame by accident. They are still NIB. The first one to ask for them in this thread and post a pic of their N frame with the request can have them for free. You will need to get your address to me and I will pay for regular mail within the US. My two requests: 1) only ask for them if you really intend to use them, and 2) post a pic with them on after you get them.

The holsters in the top photo are Bianchi X15's while the bottom photo is a Ted Blocker. The X15 with the laces on the yoke is probably 40 years old or so.
On both of the X15's I removed the elastic strap and replaced them with leather harnesses I made. The elastic looses strength over time and causes the rig to sag and flop around. Even when new the elastic will sag with a heavy gun. It also isn't very wide so it cuts into you when carrying.
The leather straps are 1" wide so they distribute the weight better making the rig more comfortable. They are 8-9 oz leather so they are very strong. Not thin like some leather harnesses. Since the harness is leather it doesn't loose strength over time and holds the gun and holster securely.
The rig is very comfortable. It's very adjustable and once adjusted it makes carrying a large handgun easy. I've worn it 8-12 hours with 6 inch N frames with no problems.
Also, you can easily remove the harness and put in on another X15, X2100, Safariland, or most any other vertical holster. Takes less than a minute to swap it out.

Late to the party, but that's the story of my life--LOL. I carry my 629 Mountain Gun in a Simply Rugged 'pancake' rig and it carries well.
Looks like the 4" 44 carried in a simply rugged pancake is most popular. Have you had any problems with it staining? What do you feed it for loads?

No staining at all. This is the second Simply Rugged I have bought. The other is for my Ruger Alaskan.
The load I feed it are dependent on where I am. Home I keep it loaded with Cor-Bon 165 gr HP in .44M and for outdoor use I load it with Double Tap's HCSWC or Georgia Arms 240 gr Bonded HP.
I have both the MG and the holster to be a great combo.
PS--The one major change I made on my MG was to change out the grips for the X-frame Hogues. BIG help on felt recoil.

Nice rig. I have been looking for a Roys pancake to fit the 4" N - frame. You have a very nice setup there

This is one of only two guns I currently carry (the other is a bottom feeder). It's a Lew Horton 3" 624 in .44 Special. It rides in a Lobo Gunleather IWB very comfortably. It's surprisingly easy to conceal and the weight doesn't bother me a bit. I took the smooth combat grips off because they get very slippery when your hands aren't 100% dry, thought that was not good thing for a carry gun. The new grips have pretty aggresive checkering that really secures the gun in hand. Plus the new grips are shorter and easier to conceal. I replaced the hammer with one I bobbed in the garage for multiple reasons. She's stuffed full of Cor-Bon DPX 200 grain'ers when she's on my side.
