I may be flying to Sanford to bring back a diesel Excursion with the check engine light on. It was recently serviced for the same problem in Illinois, but is now in FL with the light back on. Any suggestions where to get it serviced in the Sanford-Orlando area? It is very low mileage, 40k.

I've got a check engine light on in my 2010 Silverado for the last 7000 miles, came on at 28 K. Gm's seem to come on sooner and sooner. My 2002 Impala came on at 45 K, my son traded at 170,000mi light still burning bright. If it's running OK, drive on. Joe

You cannot get away with that in many states because of the smog check for registration.

Why is the light coming on? or staying on? It's on for a reason...do you know why? Go to some O'Rreilly, or Auto Zone, they have the computer checkers there for free, and you can find out exactly what it is...Then you can have some "Ammo" for when you go to a place to have it repaired, and they won't rake you over the coals if you know too what it is that's wrong....

+1... The check engine light could be serious OR NOT....

As posted, the CEL is on for a reason. If the truck is running well, it could be a simple fix. Most emission related CEL's do not affect drive-ability.

Get the code pulled at an auto parts store, they'll de-code it for you. They can also 'clear' it the correct way (not by disconnecting battery). If it's something serious, have them leave the code in and go to plan B.

I can't resist....:D

At least if you know what the service light is on for...(Oxygen sensor?????) then they can't sell you a set of tires too..

I don't know...trying to trouble shoot it here on the forum...but many times that's all it may be...a oxygen sensor, or plugged injectors. No that's not going to hurt anything...But a low OIL light, or Water Light...well that's a different story......

P.S. Don't let your low fuel light come on with a diesel.
