Gotta say I am more than impressed, IMO they hit a Home Run with the styling. This aint even close to your grandpaw's Country Squire.

Now one trend that I'm seeing in all the new cars being shown is that all of them are loaded up with lots and lots of electronic gewgaws. That is something I don't like at all, once these cars hit about 10 years old they'll turn into a real maintenance nightmare, because every resistor or capacititor that fails will end up with another error code being set. Next time you look at that gee whiz touch screen display that controls the radio, heat, lights and everything else think about how long your last TV set lasted, that is about how long that touch screen will last.

Frankly, I miss the days when a tuneup meant putting in some new spark plugs and a new set of breaker points. Yeah, I'm old, however I remember being able to keep a 30 or 40 year old car running good by replacing just a few simple and basic parts.

Me and the Mrs are out looking for a 4 dr sedan like the Fusion, Accord, Camry etc, etc. All the ads and brochures are nothing but all the high tech electronic fetures, navagations screens, Blue Tooth , Back up cam etc etc, I want to know the car, engine, brakes gas mileage etc. Oh, you want a power seat, then you need this $1k package of other junk,

I don't what to pay over a $1k for all the junk. I want a cd player/radio. I have managed to find my way across this Country with out it. Most of the time without a map. Oh lets check the weather, stock quotes, yak yak. Paddle shifters on a 4 cyliner automatic?? Come on.

Oh come one and have fun. If you want regular then the Taurus may be the car you would like. But don't rob me of my tech crappola!!! :p

If I can't have a Dodge Charger that doesn't have traction control, A/C, ABS, and five hundred pounds of electronics controlling the engine, then I at least want my Playstation built into my Fusion... ;)

Remember when cars used to be fun? They still can be...

I guess it's what the generation of "X" wants.

Not my cup of tea. A real car should have a wheelbase of 121" or more and weigh a good bit over two tons. :D

YES!!!! Gadgets!!! :D Gone are the days of electronics that if they break then they are irreplaceable. Gone are the days of 12:00 flashing on the console. And gone are the days of cars that are merely four wheels and a windshield!!! If I can't have a motor and a seat bolted to the floor and feel the frame twist as the car launches forward, then give me fun gadgetry that at least make the car seem less like a frumpsmobile and more like the USS Enterprise!!!

OK, maybe I'm a little spinned up about this. I'm just tired of boring cookie cutter American cars. The last truly fun car I owned was an S2000. A Japanese car. Nothing against the Japanese, it just irks me a great deal that we make such frumpster cars and you have to go oversee's to really get something exciting. We were coming close with cars like the Solstice and a few others, but clearly we just couldn't allow that to happen. So a racy looking Ford with some goofy but fun electronics is a step in the right direction for US care makers. No, they won't be for everyone, but they will be for a rather large group of X'ers like myself that are looking for a new car soon and one that won't slap us and call us Sally at the gas pump.

I know this post is about the Ford Fusion, but it shares the chasis with a Mazda 6. My "toy" is my 2010 Dodge Challenger. I didn't want to use it for business and rack up a lot of miles, so I decided to by a daily driver. After a lot of research, I settled on the 2012 Mazda 6. I bought the base model with 6 speed for $17,200 and bought some new American Racing alloy wheels for about $600 installed. Even though it's a base model, it's fairly well equipped. No NAV, etc., but power windows, power locks, stereo controls on the steering wheel, six speaker stereo, etc.

Cool thing is that it was built in Michigan. Motor and tranny are from Japan. You can get the same car with an automatic, but it would be at least $1,000 more. I wanted the 6-speed. My father thinks that I'm nuts. :)

Edit - I should add that this is not a tiny car. My kids think it has more cabin space than my 2005 Impala. It does seem like the interior is bigger from front to back, but I don't think it's as wide as my Impala. My son gets the Impala when he graduates this spring.

And have a full frame, 8 cylinder engine and rear wheel drive...

... or four wheel drive.

Aaargh, I disagree on that.

I'm honestly disapointed. Looks like they ran out of ideas/innovation.

We have a 2010 Fusion and we love it.

1.6" lowered with 16" DUB Drone wheels.

But the '13 Model?

Looks like a German Ford Mondeo.

This is boring, unimaginative and not worth spending money on.

I hear Dodge is bringing back the Dart this year. Sure wish Mr. Norm was still around to give us a Super Stock version!
And my favorite Ford; 1969 Galaxy 500 with a 390 4 barrel V-8! Dale

I love my Crown Vic Interceptor, but it's probably the only American car I would own, the Japanese have superior cars. Now a truck is a different story, would only buy Ford.

But that fusion is starting to loosen the Japanese grip on sedans, and it looks good, jaguaresque.

That's because it is the Mondeo. Mulally was smart enough to realize the Mondeo is an excellent car and there's no reason to drop half a bil designing a similar car just for North America.

I'm a truck guy, but when my monthly gas bill hit $1500 last fall I looked for a car. I'm not going to drive a compact, and settled on a Fusion. 35+ miles to the gallon and room for the family of 5 to go to dinner. Needless to say the F250 stays parked now except when it's time to tow.

IMO, Ford has the sedan down pat. It's much roomier than the others, priced right and I didn't have to settle for an overpriced Toyota that I didn't really want. Just filled it up, 535 miles until empty and it only hold about 15 gallons. Think of the extra gun money. Couldn't be happier.

YMMV,
Munster
