Ford just released the new 7.3 bigblock as a crate engine. I know I can not be the only one that can tell this will be the next big thing for ford guys like me. I been looking at pictures of cut out display engines. This engine looks very simple. Its not as wide as the 5.0 coyote. One part of me wants to kick my 460 to the side and save up and buy this engine. It won't be to long for the price to drop and more parts become available.

I'm sure the heads make up for quite a bit of the width difference.

The new 7.3 is a camshaft driven engine. The 5.0 is a dual over head cam engine. So this should be smaller. Most hot rodders building fords go for the LS engine becuase its smaller than the 5.0 coyote.

I like the new 7.3 and i haven't read any complaints about it in the RV forums.Especially with the new 10 speed trans behind it.

I would have to think that the torque is what would make it run well.
The old 428s were long stroke torque motors while the 427s were big bore short stroke high rev HP motors.

You know, if the guys at Ford was smart. They should see the potential this engine has and offer a short stroke large bore version of this engine. The muscle car crowd would eat that up.

It's similar in design to the LS family, but slightly upsized. Ford designed it for torque and long term durability in truck applications.

I'm really interested in this engine to swap into our '92 Bronco... with a modern transmission it should be one heck of a package.

I don’t know about this 7.3....kind of reminds of when I got my 2005 6.0 powerstroke and all it did was give up the ghost at 225k miles with a blown head gasket, poor injectors and weak head studs. Not to mention a bunch of other little stuff that made the truck nothing but trouble. I don’t believe any of Ford’s hype about all new engines......I am still don’t have a truck because I have no faith in any of the makers any more.... I use my International single axle dump truck when I need a truck for now....DT 466 that you can’t kill if you tried.

Build a proper 385 series Lima (370/429/460) with aluminum heads and a roller cam, fuel inject it, and you will have higher power, more compact design, just as "light", and less expensive engine than the new 7.3 (444 CI) engine, which is a pushrod, cast iron block, aluminum head design. The 7.3 is not as wide as the "old" modular engines but is substantially taller,so will be difficult to fit in a chassis smaller than a truck without a hood bump. Not to mention the best transmission Ford ever built (the C6) bolts right up to the Lima block and needs no computer to run it. Modern does not mean better..

Maybe they'll do what Dodge did with the 10 cylinder engine. Introduce it in the pickup truck and later refine it for the (Viper) sports car?

I doubt it..Ford already has an E-lectric Mustang and is really pushing small displacement turbos in everything. The 7.3l gas normally aspirated engine is slated to be their medium duty truck motor and I can't imagine the pencil pushers will allow it in anything else, just like Fords V10 mod motor: it never went into anything but trucks from the factory.

I hope Ford comes out with something that will appeal to the masses. The company has been taking a beating in revenues and that reflects in their diminished share price. And they recently suspended dividend payments.

Ford is hoping the new Bronco will appeal to the Masses.
Hard to see that a new big pushrod V-8 will have mass appeal.
Trucks - Vans - Motorhomes.
Just like the V-10.
Speaking of V-10s - Been watching crazy Kansas car guys on YouTube.
I know. Crazy car guys supposed to be in Cali and places like that.
The Wizard, Car Mechanic Extraordinaire, says he needs to finish work on that DeLoren.
He needs it to go back in time so he can buy some parts for the Viper he also working on.

Thats basically my plans for my ford 460. I have a unused block and a unused factory crankshaft. I been working on a tiny house so I never got to do anything with it. I was looking to buy high compression factory heads earlier this year. But I guess everyone else had the same idea becuase the price on those heads sky rocketed.

I decided to go with TrickFlow heads and an edelbrock torker EFI intake. The most expensive part are the heads. Once I jump that hurdle. The rest should fall inplace.

Ford has not had a real bright idea in years. Even if we all spell it out to them what we want from the new 7.3. It would likely go over their heads. I believe they should offer this with a shorter stroke, large bore, aggressive camshaft and a front slump oil pan. Sell it at a competitive price and these engines will fly off the shelves.
