I don't know if anybody is having an issue finding a foregrip, but that is the first thing I got for my M&P 15-22.

After considerable searching, I found a UTG foldable grip with the internal battery compartment and pressure switch grooves.

I think it is used for airsoft guns.

The issue I had was, the grip does not tighten to the rail. the only thing that kept the grip on was the bolt, but it moved around like crazy.

I am no metal worker, but I am pretty pround of what I accomplished. I filed down a tiny metal plate (1/4 inch by 3/8inch) just big enough so when I set it at an angle in a notch on my rail, the grip just barely couldn't slide over it. Then I filed an slight angle on my grip and muscled it over the metal piece.

Now it does not move at all and I have exactly the grip I wanted for $18.

My follow-up question is:
When I get the money, I would like to get a new foregrip. How do those Bi-pod grips perform?

I see two that interest me: The spring loaded bi-pod grip. but it's not adjustable.

and the one where the handle splits and you can adjust them. But it doesn't look very functional.

I like the idea of a bi-pod grip, any ideas?

If you have a standard rail you will run into the same thing I did. the grip does not actually tighten. I am not tool pro either, but I do have some files. do you have any tools?(a file)

I have a file, but I'll be sending the grip back if I run into any issues like this. That's just ridiculous...! I have the standard M&P 15-22, so if it doesn't work, back it goes!
 
Plus I don't see how you can say it doesn't tighten? There's a hex key apparently to tighten it? Oh well... I'll see later Thursday...
 
Other than that, it's a great grip.If you like, I can send you a metal piece. I'll file it down so all you have to do is pull the grip over it.

Let me know. (and for free too, i'm not fishing for cash)

no worries, I searched for a long time before I decided on this grip and I love it. anything I can do to help. let me know..

With the number if quality mil-spec AR parts makers out there (LaRue Tactical, Daniel Defense, American Defense Mfg, Tango Down, Magpul, Gear Sector, Spike's Tactical, etc.), I tend to stay away from the airsoft varieties as some of them are not mil-spec. If the grip didn't slide onto the rail and snug up by tightening the tension screw then the part is not in spec for 1913 --mounting or altering the mount can damage the rail, especially the M&P15-22 polymer rail. I learned my lesson five years ago with UTG. I now order only AR mil-spec accessories and parts direct from the AR part manufacturer or through Rainier Arms or Bravo Company.

On the forward grip, I prefer a shorty or the Magpul AFG. I never hold he grip like a vertical handle; I use it as a hand stop, a reference point for my hand while I control my rifle with a thumb over bore or a thumb in-line with the bore grip on the rail/handguard. I like a low profile forward grip because it is "less in the way". ....just my preference. Also, I subscribe to the buy once, cry once and the buy cheap pay twice approaches. $20 UTG vs. $30 for a Magpul AFG or $20 for a Magpul MOE grip--I will buy Magpul before anything else because they make solid kit.
 
You're grip is not the only accessory with this issue. So far the AFG2 and YHM bipod adapter have been loose on my rifle. The 15-22 "rails" may be slightly undersized, as these accessories fit correctly on a YHM AR upper.

You don't need to make metal tabs though, a little black electrical tape in the rail slot will take up the excess space around the screw and prevent sliding. And it won't be visible from the outside. Actually tape is quite a useful accessory for the 15-22. Tighten rail accessories, remove the annoying rattle from the MOE pistol grip cover, take out rattle from the stock...

Mine is on the truck for delivery, so will hold breath till it shows up...
 
That is great information. I was mindful of the soft polymer, but even still I need to take the grip off to make sure there are no adverse issues from my changes. The grip is five position so it really does what I wanted. I am going to have to check out Magpuls though.

I think the issue is that the mount doesn't actually clamp tighter onto the rail. The grip slides on, and the screw goes into the gap to prevent it from moving forward and backward, but there are no moving parts to tighten against the rail.

You're absolutely correct. Just got the grip in and it is absolutely useless! It probably moves like half an inch total in slop. Terrible. :(
 
yeah. well there are other options out there at slightly higher price points. If you like I can still send you the metal piece, or you can try some tape like Dragon88 suggested.

You ordered a few other accessories though WilliamG, how do you like those?

I appreciate the offer, still, but I find it ridiculous that the product doesn't even remotely work out of the box, so I'm sending it back to Amazon so that UTG doesn't just assume we'll take it lying down.

I got the UTG foregrip today that stunk, as we know, and I also got the UTG foldable bipod that was wobbly as all heck, so that's going back, too..

I said screw it and went and picked up a Grip Pod LE, the one with the pop-out bipod, and I LOVE it, except it's pricey at $100. But you do get what you pay for. It's a great foregrip/bipod combo.

I also picked up some Magpul XTM rail covers, which are really great, though a pain to take off. I went to the range and they gave me a .223 round which is PERFECT for removing the rails, and now it's easy to do so.

Still waiting on my UTG tactical LED/Laser combo, though if it's anything like UTG's other stuff, I'll not be thrilled. Also waiting for my Magpul B.A.D :)

Here's a picture so far, barricaded in the bathroom against the zombie incursion...

If you want a cheap, solid foregrip, you could try one of the ProMag ones. It tightens from the bottom, and is very solid. Sure they make some crappy magazines, but their foregrip (and rail covers) are not bad at all, considering the weapon theyre being used on.

Cost: $12

Most any gun shop or Academy sporting goods store sells them

haha, my wife says she likes your bathroom... anyway you have a great setup going. I am seeing the light in reading threads, I'm going to stay away from non- mil spec equipment. Depending on where taxes leave us, I have my eye on the Spider S3 laser on wickedlasers.com. it looks incredible and is legal in the US. The price hurts a little, but in the long run I think I would be very satisfied.

Haha thanks for the compliment. :)

I do like the current setup. It'll hopefully get more "tacticool" when I get my Magpul B.A.D. and the tactical flashlight/laser in tomorrow (Friday). I'm sticking with the black, covert theme. I really like the look of the flamboyant 15-22s out there with camo and greet etc, but I'm sticking with an all-black theme myself. :)
 
Also, that laser looks INSANE! But it does say on the website you can't use it on a gun. Heck, if you put it on a gun you wouldn't even need ammo! :D :D
 
agreed, i prefer a black-out gun so my colored optics stand out more. I think the arctic blue laser with the all black gun is the way i want to go. I like your muzzle break but I think I want the suppressor look. Let me know how you like the light system.
 
WilliamG I don't know from experience, but from reading other threads, I have read that the Magpul B.A.D. lever doesn't work without modifing on the m&p 15-22. You might want to do a search on it.
