I stopped by today, and they have apparently bought a large collection of S&W revolvers. Most are pinned and recessed. But they are not cheap.

You won't find any eye-popping deals at Cabella's. However, they do get some good Smith's and Colt's in and you can shop all their stores in their combined gun libraries on the Internet. If something sits on the shelf for too long, they will lower the price but, that doesn't happen often.

I've not tried it, but we have a Cabelas here in Glendale Arizona, what I understand is that they will deal on their listed prices. If it were me in the area and saw something to my liking, I'd start haggling.

My experience with Cabellas has been mostly positive. The only exception has been the store in the St Louis area. After deciding to visit their store, I called ahead and spoke with the gun library manager. He had a very good understanding of what I had before I arrived and seemed eager to deal. I drove seven hours and stayed overnight in a motel. This guy was rude and arrogant. He spent only twenty minutes with me and made me a ridiculous and insulting offer for my thirty guns. It was all or nothing with him. It was the first time an offer offended me. After fuming in the parking lot for about twenty minutes we decided to make the trip to Kansas City. It was a very good decision. We were treated very good and professionally. They purchased the majority of my guns. We have been back on several occasions and have dealt with two very professional and competent gentlemen. Vists to the stores in Ft Worth and Buda, Tx have also been very positive. We have been to both stores on numerous occasions. The managers of both gun libraries are professional and fun to deal with. They have been very willing to deal on the buying and the selling side.

Remember there are three kinds of people, those who can count and those who can't.

The Cabelas gun library guy told me that they are not buying anymore guns for awhile while this financial mess is going up here in LaVista,Nebraska. I told the guy you take trades dont you?????? And he said that depends on the price of the gun you are buying or trading in. rz625-8

Cabela's at Glendale AZ is no great bargain. I did find a Post War pre model 10 with the "S" prefix, Factory Nickle plated 4" as close to 100 % as a used gun can get for $300. There is a letter "N" on the grip frame. It's a great shooter.

But, I have a Hungarian CZ 27 with Nazi Markings and asked how much they would offer me for it. The gun guy said about $200. They have this guns twin sister in their gun gallery priced at $650. In fact, mine is in better condition. Thats a pawn shop attitude.

I bought a 1905 4th. change for $299. They had it marked as a model 10. It's about 95 to 98 %.

If you keep your eyes open, and know wqhat to look for, there are deals even at Cabela'.

They are having a gun show on Friday, Sat, and Sun. at the Glendale Az store.

That's interesting! When I was at LaVista a week or two ago they were busier than all get out in the Gun Library. Of course I don't know how many customers were 'tire kickers' and how many actually bought something. When did they tell you this?

Been to a few over the years. Seen some okay used S&Ws, but nothing that could be called a deal. Typically, stores like this (and Gander or Bass) want Blue Book plus prices. However, their prices are usually no where near what a Mr. Fugate would be asking.

Cabela's here in Boise has been great to me. Manager took 45 minutes making sure what I had and what he thought it was worth retail, But not interested in buying because of the "Market"
Still felt like I was treated in a very professional manner. Did go and update my homeowners ins. Might be good for alot of us to double check our policy 'No I don't sell ins"

When you look at used guns at Cabella's, keep in mind they will deal on the prices... at least they would in Ft. Worth.

I talked to the manager at the Cabella's gun library in LaVisa today. He assured me they're still very interested in trades if he/they felt the trade(s)is/are something they could sell. I certainly can't fault them for that philosophy. My impression is Cabella's gun library pride themselves on being a premium shotgun mecca. Next would be a premium high-powered rifle mecca. Handguns and all the rest in their gun libraries are just a necessary evil.

The only deal I ever got from a cabela's was at the Owatana, MN store, where my 547 came from. The only reason it was a deal, was that the Blue Book, at the time, had not caught up with GB yet on S&W revolvers. I paid top Blue Book, but at the time, it was only about half of what they were going for.

Recently, I moved from MN to WV, so I will spend an afternoon on the motorcycle and run up to Wheeling. They have had a 2" post war, pre 10 sitting in the case that I "made them an offer" on back in March. That gun is still there. They marked it down 100.00 some time in the summer, but it still sits there.

The gun is nice, but not perfect, been carried, but cared for. It is still nicer than the ratty, chopped down, resighted, reblued 1917 that they have to have 600.00 for. The shame of it is that it is wearing a set of pre war magnas that someone chopped the horn off of so they look like service grips.

I saw that gun when it was at $900. I told the "librarian", that they would own that gun for ever. He tried to tell me it was in the original blue box....Ugliest gun I have seen in a while.

That's only because of the mark-up for ego.
