Found a 28

It sounds strange with a pristine bore but fouled chambers (pitting from storing loaded for years?).

From the serial number it is probably 1978, maybe 1979.

Mine was s/n N237801, and per factory Letter it shipped October 13, 1975 to Maryland Police Supply Co. in Baltimore, MD.

I sold mine a few years ago to another Forum Member for $750 shipped so Your LGS asking price is not to bad for these days IF the chambers check out equal to the bore. If not there maybe other problems internal (rust, bad timing or carry-up). These were basically cop guns so should have a fairly significant trigger pull weight in both SA and DA. Look for case head impact on recoil shield also if a lot of Magnum rounds went through it.

Also...if barrel condition with pristine bore, no muzzle wear, excellent looking forcing cone doesn't match cylinder condition with normal high spot wear, then look for any "bubba" marks at the pin attaching bbl to frame. If signs of trying to remove and replace, finish upset, not proud, etc. ) then maybe barrel is a replacement for one heavily worn.

I've owned 28's & 27's for over 40 years........Never, ever have I felt/saw/handled or heard of these guns being cop's gun with heavier SA/DA trigger pulls...........Taint so.

I'd jump on that. +/- $100 it's a good price for an old classic.

While I would offer lees, I would take it for that price. Even if the cylinder is toast, new cylinders are available. I, however, would promptly convert it to 45 ACP, and never look back!

Hey Kevin, would you get a .45 ACP barrel & cylinder, or have the 28 barrel reamed for .45 ACP and the same for the cylinder?

... It's amazing how few stores actually clean used guns.

I find it amazing how today people do not know how to clean a revolver. It doesn't need to be spotless like we did for Police Academy inspections. But cleaned and lubed. The cylinder is always over looked, especially 357 Magnums when I look at used revolvers at the LGS.

On that one, Dick Nickels bored and rifled the existing barrel and I fit a new cylinder. That was at least 4 decades ago. Today, I have barrels and cylinders. I would R&R the existing and sell them to help defray costs.

Yep, someone bought it! I waited too long, again. Oh well, I left my name, number and what Id be interested in because he said he gets alot of used stuff. Maybe Ill get lucky.

I know what you mean. A buddy brings over a 2 1/2" 686-6 he just got and it's filthy. The cylinder would hardly come off the yoke there was so much dried crud. It makes you wonder.
