I have a local source with a 986 for 1100....do you all think its worth going for? I have handled the gun personally, lockup is tight, trigger is smooth, and everything seems great on it. It feels just right. Thoughts? If I really wanted I could take the thing home this minute

I have it narrowed down to "if Im ready to drop 1100 on this gun, do I NOT want to buy that 625 PC ive had my eye on...." I mean, 9mm is cheaper ammo anyways.

Hard choice. It's a lot of money but if it's what you want don't wait too long. I would love to have one myself.

I bought mine for about that price and don't regret it. Hard to say if you'll see them floating around for $900 a few months from now or if they'll be in perpetually short supply. For what it's worth the 625 PCs don't seem to be hard to come by.

You are a bad influence. I definitely like things on the more unique end, and this does fit the bill for sure. What type of kit would I need to change out the rear sight for a red dot/rail in the future?

I know it's newly released but I can't see spending that much for the Pro version, the PC 929 sure but not the Pro 986. That's just my 2c though. YMMV.

The 986 is a PC gun also.

Lol you're right, no worries, I guess even S&W is confused since they call it the 986 Pro Series on the website but also list it as a PC gun. I still think $1100 is a bit high, online I've seen them for the mid to upper $900's but supply is limited so if you want one it's either in stock at the dealer or wait and watch online.

Just checked the website it's a Performance Center version.

The website may have it in the PC section but it doesn't have the PC emblem, says Pro Series on the gun, and perhaps most importantly, doesn't come in a grey box. It's not a PC.

/Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I saw the Pro Series on the frame but they sure are calling it a Performance Center gun even did in the video. That sure is PC price too. I guess they call it PC to justify the asking price. The MSRP is only $40 less the the 927. They have a new 686 plus that looks just like it minus the titanium cylinder. They probably use the same frame to save money.

I guess it makes sense it says Pro because they shared the frame with the Pro 686, but man I want my Grey box if it's a PC.

That said, the action is slicker than my 625 PC, so...

It's like a Stealth PC gun. You pay PC prices and get a gun with no indication outside of some marketing collateral that it's a PC.
