Hi all,
I ran across a blue S&W 27-2 in a local shop. Serial number dates it 79 or 80. It has a 4 inch barrel, Has the 3 Ts, pinned and recessed cylinder box and papers. No red insert on front sight or white outline on rear. I've looked it over and I'm not sure its ever been fired. Bluing is 99.9 percent. No turn ring. They offered it to me for 1600.00 out the door. I can't find much info on the four inch. Is this a fair price in yall's opinion?

Maybe not a screaming deal but you may never find another one like it. That barrel length was first catalogued in 1979, and in 1982 the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder features were deleted. Interesting that it doesn't have the Red Ramp front sight or white outline rear sight, SCSW 4th edition says they did.
Buyers looking for a 4" N frame .357 will often gravitate towards the Model 28. It's the same gun but without the highly polished finish or finely checkered topstrap. Plus they made a whole lot more of them and they sell for less. Great find!

I believe the 4" are the scarcest of the barrel lengths. If it truly is in the condition you are talking about, and you are measuring the barrel correctly, and the box says 4", BUY IT NOW.

If you bought on GB, it would be more than that when you got through the shipping and taxes. Now, is the price too high, who is to say, but it would only be about 150 too high for what you are describing. That is the dumb money. i would not let that go for a buck and a half.

Send pics tomorrow, or tell me where i can buy it:D

I plan on picking it up first thing tomorrow morning when thy open. I will post pics after I get it. Will add it to the Smith family.

As others have said, probably the lowest production numbers of the 27-2s. I think I've only seen one for sale locally. I'd try to negotiate a lower price but would probably pay their asking price for the complete package as described. I found one four years ago with box (perhaps not original) and tools but no docs for $900 but it shows a little use too. Good luck. Pictures when you get it please.

Picked her up

I think it likely the gun was ordered without the red ramp or white outline, because the standard stocks would be the checkered GA Targets, with a speedloader cut on the left, if it is as late a gun as you say. The smooth Targets were special order, I believe. What's the SN, maybe we can date it closer.

It's beautiful, and that you got the box and accessories make it well worth what you paid. I gave a tad over $1700 a couple of years ago for an ANIB 6" M27-2, which shipped Feb 22 of 1978 (SN N4479xx).
