Found a blue Smith 27-2 4 inch

I think it likely the gun was ordered without the red ramp or white outline, because the standard stocks would be the checkered GA Targets, with a speedloader cut on the left, if it is as late a gun as you say. The smooth Targets were special order, I believe. What's the SN, maybe we can date it closer.

It's beautiful, and that you got the box and accessories make it well worth what you paid. I gave a tad over $1700 a couple of years ago for an ANIB 6" M27-2, which shipped Feb 22 of 1978 (SN N4479xx).

SN is N693849

Very nice. Does the box number to the gun? Mine came in a wooden presentation case although I have no reason to expect it to have necessarily shipped with the gun. Just curious as I thought 27-2s would have been in presentation cases. . . .but quite possibly not.

Great gun, enjoy it.

Yes the box is labeled to the gun

I looked at the front of the cylinder and around the forcing cone and I can only find little evidence of firing. What I find odd is the blue box is void of markings except for the smith info sticker on the end.

If the sticker on the end of the box and looks like it was filled out back then, how does it list the grips? A previous owner may have upgraded them if it just says "T" or "GA".

I was bidding on my 5" 27-2, and noticed a boxed 4" in the same list of guns being sold. I had seen so many nickel ones, I had almost stopped looking for a blue 4". Last few minutes of the bid, and both watching and satisfied with the 5", I tossed in a higher bid and bought both all decked out. That was about ten to twelve years ago or longer. What a great pair.

Glad you bought it. Some of us may have been thinking about asking for seconds if you passed. Great find.

I think that indicates it originally shipped with a presentation case...The gun would have shipped in the blue box, and everything would have been packaged in a cardboard shipping carton with the information label pasted to one end of the carton...;)...Ben

CONGRATS!!! That is a beauty.

Here's mine - at SN N831378 (May 1981), it is probably a few years newer than yours.

Classy photos! Having been a metal work all my life I appreciate the older firearms and the craftsmanship that went into building them. Thank you all for sharing you insight, knowledge and experience.

Nice looking revolver! Almost nice enough to convert to 45 ACP,

Kevin

I do have a 625 I love as well as my 1960 and 1968 Colt Commercial 1911a1s.
