Found a blue Smith 27-2 4 inch

Very nice. Does the box number to the gun? Mine came in a wooden presentation case although I have no reason to expect it to have necessarily shipped with the gun. Just curious as I thought 27-2s would have been in presentation cases. . . .but quite possibly not.

I think that indicates it originally shipped with a presentation case...The gun would have shipped in the blue box, and everything would have been packaged in a cardboard shipping carton with the information label pasted to one end of the carton...;)...Ben

The letter for my M27-2 stated it shipped in the presentation case and did not have a blue box with it. Was that the norm, or did it vary according to the order?

Picked her up

That is great! Congrats. You will not regret it. My 6" 27- 2 was unfired as well,(not any more 😁) it is the best gun I own and although I paid a bit less I would have gladly paid what you did. They don't come around often.

As I recall, only about 2000 27-2 4 inch models were produced making it the rarest of the m27 barrel lengths. I'm sure there's a thread on here about the rarity of that version.
You did great picking up that beauty. I have one and it's my favorite N Frame.

Absolutely beautiful. So the 27-2 with the 3 1/2 inch barrels are not as rare as the 4inch versions???

Hi all,
I ran across a blue S&W 27-2 in a local shop. Serial number dates it 79 or 80. It has a 4 inch barrel, Has the 3 Ts, pinned and recessed cylinder box and papers. No red insert on front sight or white outline on rear. I've looked it over and I'm not sure its ever been fired. Bluing is 99.9 percent. No turn ring. They offered it to me for 1600.00 out the door. I can't find much info on the four inch. Is this a fair price in yall's opinion?

"She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine." :D

Although she's a 1/4 inch too long, "She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine." :D

I found a 27-2 3inch local. No box. But it's about 90% condition. Extremely clean. Guy wanted 1600. I got him down to $1400. Am I paying too much?

I would think you are in the ball park! That depends on the functioning and general condition. The 27-2 Smiths seem to be hard to find now days, so you could spend considerable amount of money chasing one.

Ciao S&Wforum's friends, i own several 27-2 in all barrel lenghts, i consider the 4" the rarest of the bounch.
Here in Italy the 4 inches isn't appreciate, for me it's a great mistake.
I bought two 27-2 four inches blue with a red insert front sight and white outline,
absolutely 100%, one Nickel without red insert, i paid a first blue 1000 euros, €600 the second and €1000 the nickel one. All without boxes.

On the 4" barrel 27-2 theme, I just read a post that said that 2k 4" were made? You would think from all the pics that alot more were made- being the least made barrel length in a - 2??

My -2 nickel on Culina Italian olive.

Does anyone have a letter stating how many 4" in nickel or blue or both, dash 2, were exactly made?

Well we now know where three 4" barrel nickel ones are. Mine has plain front sight, plain black rear sight, three T's and excellent nickel finish. Only downside is it has pachmyer grips. I brought it at a inflated price back when Janet Reno and her FBI and BAFT agents were murdering unarmed mother holding her baby and burning to death 79 men, women and children in Waco. Back then handguns were hard to find so I was lucky to find this one. The price I paid for it now isn't important and it is not for sale.

What is the correct style of factory grips for it?

FWIW, in the past 3 months I've bought 2 3.5" 27-2s, both 97% + with original grips. The first one was $920 after discounts and the second $1475. Unless you see a lot of 3.5" 27s floating around, $1400 for a 90%er is a fair deal.

I'd buy it at that price in that condition. They made a lot more nickle 4" than blued 4". I had a nickle one I got for a fee and it really didn't do it for me so I got rid of it. I always liked blue better.

I picked up a a +90% Blue, P&Red, 4" 27-2; at a rural gun shop here in W Pa. about 5 or 6 years ago. It's nice enough to be proud of but enough honest wear to not feel bad about taking it to the range or into the field.IMHO not much difference in "bulk" between a 3 1/2" and 4" N-frame!!!!

Because of the less than 100% condition the price was pretty reasonable.... IIRC it was about the same as a nice used 4" 28

Carries nicely in a Bianchi 111 Cyclone cross-draw holster.
