Stopped off at a local pawn shop as they normally have a decent supply of quality ammo. I always check the used gun case for bargains and found a Model 639 with adjustable sights.
Original grips look rough, however the checkering is only slightly worn, and there are just a couple of light scrapes. It might be that they are just dirty from storage. There's some surface discoloration on the matte areas of the slide, no orange rust anywhere, even on the blue rear sights. When I removed the grips, it was obvious that they had never been removed; lacquered oil/cleaning fluid on the frame and particularly the barrel bushing, The entire pistol didn't have a speck of lubrication. Bore had some dirt in it, but wasn't dirty, cleaned up with just a couple of passes of a bore brush, and is nice and bright with sharp lands and grooves. Coated the every surface with CLP and I'll take a toothbrush to it tomorrow.
Overall in good shape with one magazine. I completely stripped and cleaned the magazine and I'd be surprised if more than one magazine of ammo was fired through it. I'm guessing that it was test fired then stored in a holster, which caused the surface blemishes.
Price tag was $349.99; got it for $338 out-the-door (I was trying for $300 cash but the owner wouldn't eat the tax).
Serial number is TAC71XX if some one could give me an approximate date.
