I like to check the new revolvers at the LGS to see if they make the cut. Most don’t, so I pass them by. I also refuse to buy a new revolver online unseen, because odds are they won’t meet the standards.
I saw this 686p with 4” barrel, nib. I went through my usual routine. Checked carry up on all chambers. Then checked lockup on all chambers. Lockup is rock solid on all 7 chambers! Then checked the barrel to see if it’s screwed in to 12 o clock. Yes it is! Wow. Then I checked the b/c gap with a feeler gauge: .005. Very nice. Endshake is minimal. Forcing cone looks acceptably cut. Then I checked the seam between the yoke and frame, and pushed the cylinder outward. No movement! Looked at the muzzle crown. Very nice.
Finally, the double action trigger pull....buttery smooth and light.
I immediately added this specimen to the collection.
Never shall I sell this one.
