Hey y’all

Not sure if you remember but a bit ago I posted about my search for a 640 Pro and how QC issues were giving me genuine concern.

I order one and lo and behold, plagued with QC issues. I refuse the transfer and somewhat give up on a 640 search.

In my previous thread, probably every other person commented “just look for a pre-lock 640.” I blew it off, I want the newest and greatest, etc. Boy was I wrong!

By luck, came across a fine example of a pre-lock 640 no dash. Rarely fired, looks to be never carried. Came with my choice of UM combat grips or boot grips, went with the boot. No box or docs. Threw in a speedloader as well

Picked it up and was instantly pleased with the fit and finish. Locks up extremely tight. Finish is a beautiful stainless. Trigger is smooth like butter. One smooth pull the whole way through. Just a sweet looking, classy gun in my opinion.

I see why pre-lock Smiths are so popular now. Fit and finish is just solid. Everything from the roll marks to the lock up to the trigger to the finish. Just very impressed

I have my sights on a pre-lock 640-1

Ideally, I’m looking to carry this in a Kramer Pocket Holster just to keep up with the old-school factor but again, finding one can be difficult and those wait times are a bit prohibitive 😂

Anyways, wanted to share with y’all. Hope you find it interesting

Mine has the lock, but also has the best trigger I've ever seen on a j frame. It's my second 640. The first was a -1 that I carried for a number of years before it broke and S&W replaced with the current one. I'm a big fan of 640's. Congratulations on yours!

Very nice little revolvers. I bought a new 640 about 30 years ago; still have it. I've never had any trouble of any kind with it; it just works. It was followed by some other little .38 and 9mm 5-shooters. Practical little revolvers, IMHO..

I bought my 640 no dash not long after they came out and still have it with all the papers, box and original boo grips. I carry it occasionally and have no plans to get rid of it. I carry it from time to time and enjoy shooting mild 38’s in it for practice. I had a 442 for a CD short period but the recoil was too much for old hands and wrists. The stainless 640 with mild practice loads are manageable due to the additional weight and soft rubber grips.

A few Mo th ago I found the older brother of my 640. I located a pretty nice model 40 with no luck and have enjoyed shooting it. (Notice the safety on the back strap. That’s why they’re called a lemon squeezer.)
