FOUND PRIMERS TODAY

It's not that there are no primers out there. The problem is the price being asked (and paid, obviously) is entirely crazy. When the cost of a reload starts with a 10¢ primer, the whole process becomes a lot more painful than it used to be. :(

I agree, but the gun show sellers haven't got the latest memo. At the last show in Vegas many were still trying to sell their personal stash for $150+ a brick, which is down from the $250 to $300. We'll see what the show this weekend in Reno has to offer. I am guessing $100 to $150 per brick. Many are still trying to be sly by selling primers at $15 to $20 per sleeve to those without strong math skills.

Seen the same thing, plus some shop owners who never have anything, mysteriously have table fulls of stuff people want for outrageous prices. Part I like is seeing it all sit both days. That’s capitalism though, if we’re willing to pay it, they’ll charge it.

Not so very long ago, it was not unusual to find tables at any gun show, where the seller might have several (or even several dozen) sleeves of older primers for maybe a dollar each. I would always buy them, whatever size and brand they were. I accumulated many sleeves of primers over many years that way. I'm happy now that I had such foresight. Around 10 years ago I bought a full unopened case (5000) of older Winchester LP primers from some guy at a gun show who was quitting reloading for, as I remember, around $70-75. I still have some of those left. Those old primers still fire just like new.

Compared to factory ammunition, even higher prices still make sense if you don’t have any thing that goes bang when you pull the trigger.

I am well stocked but if I needed them paying under $80.00 a 1000 would not be that big of a deal. I don't think we will ever see them at $30. again. It may settle closer to $50.00 but who knows. Just good to hear they are becoming available and not $120.00 a 1000.
 
Local guy had them for $175 a brick today. Not kidding. He was charging $250 6 months ago.

That’s one of the reasons I am planning on shooting only muzzleloaders for the foreseeable future.
 
My LGS has finally started to get small shipments of primers in. You can only buy 5 sleeves and the price is 7.50 each and I think this is the new normal. So far I have seen CCI LPP and Federal LRP's and they are slowly coming in and going fast. I hesitated to buy online because of shipping costs so 7.50 is not that bad, its a far cry from the 32.00 per brick I was paying 2 years ago but times are different.

Found a sleeve of CCI SR for 5.00 at my lgs/pawn when I picked up a Webley transfer recently. I would pay 50.00 a brick and not have my feelings hurt. Next gun show I think that I’ll carry a brick of CCI SR primers to swap for LPs and see what I can get.
 
I call a 5K box a sleeve thats what the distributor told me so if thats a sleeve then what is a 5 k box? HMMM
 
I just hope I never next to pay that much for primers. I'm alright now but who knows how long this will last? I thought things would be better by now but I was wrong. (obviously)

I might start shooting again every week if primers are showing up again.

I try to maintain 5K for each size I need. I hit that level this year and cut my range time in half to conserve.

I don't mind paying a nickel for a primer but I'm not OK with anything more. I'll just wait until they hit a nickel and stock up again. They will eventually.
 
Sorry, but it is a matter of perspective. Don't get me wrong, I have some primers in reserve, but consider primer cost in relation to ammo availability. Most of my handguns are chambered for cartridges that were readily available 5 years ago, now they can't be found. While you can find some NATO spec ammo on the shelves, how many boxes of revolver cartridges have you seen?

Honestly, I really don't anticipate seeing ammo return in the quantities we would like, or at the prices we would prefer. I think that in the not too distant future, we may be lucky to find primers at $150 per thousand. If you reload with cast bullets and $0.15 primers, you could still be looking at $10 a box ammo, but you'll still be shooting and not using your handguns as paperweights.

Take a long look at the COLA Uncle Sam is projected to give Social Security recipients, I think that it may be the lube in preparation for things to come!
 
$75.00/1K……..wow, just ….wow……..but if you need them, then you need them, cost not withstanding.
 
Those of us who have been around long enough know to prepare for these events. Some of newer reloaders may be thinking that they can relax now because things are getting "better". For those in that camp recall that politics now days can change very quickly. What if there is an unfavorable change in the banking laws or a massive increase in terrorism in our country that spawns new regulations? Many are counting on a power shift in 2022. That may happen but I would not count on it. The Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared" still rings true.
 
Found my old stash at son’s, taking few thousand home and leaving few thousand here. Pounds of old unopened powder too, nice find and has been in AC for years. Have to find dies next.

CCI #41’s are $90 on a popular site, been on there for 3 days. Another has CCI 450’s for $80, been there since yesterday. Neither has much in the way of powder to go with them. Federal lpm’s are $86 at another, been there over a week.

PV had cci 400 and 450 2 weeks ago, but had rl15, ar comp, unique, etc. So the hazmat pain could be lessened. Watched it all disappear in roughly 45 minutes.

Looks to me like double or triple the price plus hazmat has slowed the madness down a smidge.

Primers are showing up and sort of hanging around now, except shotgun, didn’t know shotgun was “that” popular. Anyway, looks like once 209’s and varget show up and hang around, it’ll be calm for a while. Seriously, when’s the last time someone saw varget anywhere except gb?

Shotshell primers should be readily available. Very few reload shotshells today. Due to the high price of shot, you may as well buy factory loads as their cost is little more than the price of components. I have around 2000 209 primers, and I haven't loaded any shells for at least 15 years. I believe I have one bag of 7-1/2 shot somewhere. I should load it up and then try to sell all my shotshell loading equipment.

$5.00 per/100 is reasonable. I don't think it will go lower soon.

I’m surprised in this and other similar threads when people talk about going back to Black Powder and percussion as prices for the “modern” stuff goes so high, but percussion caps went through this several years ago and if you can find them now for less than about $60/thousand, you’re having better luck than I am! They’ll probably go up again now, since more folks are talking about going “back” to them! :(
