It is a square butt.. Yea snub M10 square butt... no biggie. But the Stag is WOW... just what I have been looking for (and at $550, not a bad deal at all as the blue is excellent on this M10.)

Now... If I want to put these stag grips on a S&W 66-4 2 1/2 Combat Magnum.. round butt..

How do I reshape the grips? It is real stag.. would love to make them fit my 66!!!

I know I can scribe the RB on the back of the grips but do I use emery cloth or sand paper or what?

Thanks for any help!

Give us some pictures of the grips outside AND inside. Stag often has a porous “core”… you do not want to sand thru the exterior to the core, it doesn’t look near as good.

You can use normal woodworking sanders etc, but 1) antler smells; 2) antler burns; and 3) antler is a biological material and you don’t want to be breathing it. So I would do it slowly and lightly with a belt sander outdoors. Hand sand/polish after you have the shape you want.

Hopefully I get it tomorrow... They are the K frame version of this grip I already have... I mean spitting image...

I have rounded some elk grips and modified others. Can it be done? Sure! Are there potential issues? Of course. Hand files, backed sand paper and patience can achieve a lot. Belt sanders, grinders and rotary grinders can remove very much, very quickly. Once gone, hard to put back.

Another problem is where is the pith in relation to the surface? Here are two sets of stag, both on round butts. You can see how porous the one set is up by the horn of the frame.

If that bothers you, leave them as is.

There is also the option of making you square butt stocks into round to square conversion stocks as in the last two images.

Ok Gang... She is a C Series!!!! C56xxxx and she is a FOUR Screw!!

Made in 1961 – 62!

Got the stags off and dug up the SB grips I got on HighBid.com (got a bunch of stuff and sold off some and kept the rest.. the grips are FREE.. that is I sold enough so all my stuff didn't cost a cent.)

Now I'll get my 66 2 1/2 .357 and see if I want to work on those grips.. if not... I have a 4" 686 that would love to have 'em!

I presume, like my .44 above, they are both Sambar. The M-10s are just dusty and not polished (I guess.)

If I do a grip conversion here is the gun..

My 66-4 I fitted with chrome hammer and trigger. 100% tight lockup and smooth DA!

And imagine a Tyler T adapter added and you see the Retro look I am after.

But again, if no-go I have a 686 just waiting for it!
