Found this old S&W tucked away in my safe

From what I have READ, the .256 also suffered from setback in revolvers, which is why Colt and Ruger did not produce the ones they planned to. I have READ of .25-20 revolvers working.

Very nice gun and not one you see everyday anymore. Enjoy it that's what they were made for.

Hi gotta love the Rem Jet i have a first year M53 with the 8 3/8 inch barrel and what a tack driver. You have to load for this gun since theres no ammo around. I did find a box of Remington which i will never shoot. Its only going to go up in value as the years progress. I luck out when i found my Jet i only pay $600 for it and came with 200 brass casings, dies & 12 inserts

OK , I know Ruger made that single-shot Hawkeye thing in .256. Never fired one though.

I was looking at one of these not too long ago but decided against it b/c of condition.

Does anyone have experience firing a Model 53. I read that there was significant trouble with cases sticking in the cylinder.

It's an appealing round in theory - at least for those of us who like magnums.

been shooting and reloading for them since 1974. my favorite gun to play with. you will need ear protection with jet loads. over the years i have owned 20-25 of them and regret selling any that i did. to the op- is yours for sale?

if you haven't shot one, they are an experience you won't forget. especially with factory ammo. tons of noise and no recoil. don't forget your ear protection either. before you shoot this, use a tight fitting patch and clean the chambers with rubbing alcohol or lighter fluid and let dry. with factory ammo, you still may get some setback. don't pound on the ejector rod to remove empties. use a brass or wooden dowel down each chamber to knock out the empties and save them for future reloading. let us know how you liked shooting this gun.

Well perrazi,

I cleeaned the chambers out real good and made sure I had my earmuffs (dont shoot without em) and took it to the range with me yesterday and gave it a try, you are right, it is loud with no recoil and no doubt shoots better than I can shoot it.....bifocals :( just cant see them sights like I used to. Was fun and I will shoot it again.
