The little Camillus is a type I collect. However the handles are not tortoise shell but a type of celluloid called "Butter and Molasses. I am particularly fond of this handle material. In my pocket now is a 1950's vintage Schrade with the same butter and molasses handles.

Oh, okay. Thank you for telling me. That is the only one (of that type) I own. I got it as part of a deal when buying another knife. By accident. Perhaps it is even older than I thought. I was merely guessing as to the date (1965).

For decades I collected bone handled antique folder. When collecting any one type of anything, you seem to get other types. My collection had these extra's with various celluloid handles and I never gave them much notice. In the last decade these are now my main interest and I seldom look at my bone handed folders. There were all kinds of celluloid handles that add joy to the searches.

My dad always carries a trapper. I was always more of a stockman type guy myself but I’m positive I have a couple of trappers that he likely gave me. The ones with the carbon steel blades that were actually carried and used daily always developed a nice patina.

That’s a nice looking group. The older I get the more interested I become in blades. Don’t have any like those (yet).

Except for one lonely knife, that is how my entire knife collection looks (don't know how many I have - never counted). I own only one "tactical" knife and it is a Kershaw that someone gave me when I was 55, but other than that all my knives are "old fart" pocket knives or traditional sheath knives.

I look at knives as cutting tools, survival tools, around the shop and home tools and never really thought of them as tools for self protection. Truthfully, that's what a firearm is for and I never want to get that close to a perp. Aside from which, I have never trained, practiced or had the desire to learn how to use a knife as a weapon. Yes, if that was the only thing I had and I had to use it in that vein I would, but I just never got into knives that way. The old traditional pocket knives are just fine for me!
