Yes, he was playing a mobster in that number. He carried a small revolver in another film, "Follow the Fleet" during a number with Ginger Roger's, "Let's Face the Music".

Cyd was definitely a looker, and Fred can sure dance. James Cagney was a very good dancer too..

I have never been much of a fan of Hollywood musicals. But no one today matches Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly as dancers. One of the very few movie musicals I have enjoyed was An American in Paris with Gene Kelly.
