So, this time last year, I asked about freefloat rails, and I know people were talking about troy trx and MIDWEST industries. However, I noticed troy isn't selling their TRX free float rails. What free float rails are available currently for the m&p 10 and what are the pros and con's(which do you believe is the best)? I know people were securing their rails with screws through the rrail and barrel.

Troy, Midwest and SLR Rifleworks to name a few. Just make sure you get DPMS low profile.

The Troy Alphas come with a new barrel nut that works like a GI nut where you have to torque it until you align the teeth for the gas tube to slide through. Not sure about how the MI rail attaches but I think it has teeth also.

The Troy and MI are popular but I like a little better how the SLR attaches.

I'm looking at the troy mrf 13.8 rail.

I'm suprise there isn't a stickied list for this kind of thing

I installed a Lancer 5 carbon fiber free float tube on my M&P-10. I like it because the carbon fiber doesn't get as cold or as hot as aluminum

The Big Smith uses the 16 threads per inch barrel nut

I have an APEX hand guard myself. The mount clamps around the barrel nut, so according to APEX, Brownell's, and S&W, it should fit fine. I plan on installing it today, so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Let me know how it goes, Ive heard that people put a screw through the handrail into the barrel nut to insure it doesnt move. Anyone have experience with this?

ALSO: Where can anyone find the apex freefloats, I cant seem to find them, all out of stock.

No screws, this is a very solid mounting handguard. I remember reading that as well, and cannot remember which brand it was- MI I think.

apexhandguard.com has them- you want the DPMS style.

That is where I got mine. It might have been cheaper elsewhere but finding a place that had one in stock was problematic, so I went to the source.

I like your camo job. Did you do that or is it dipped?

That is Krylon camo- tan base, then brown overspray with leaves and evergreens from around our place, followed up with three coats flat clear.

replacement

Funny on the timing of your response as I just realized that the ALPHA replaced the TRX, did they do this in response to the loosening of the TRX? Is the barrel nut the only difference? and Im assuming the VTAC version is the same except for barrel porting(holes/notches)?

I have no idea why Troy redesigned it. It just like it better not having that tab clamp area hanging down. I believe the Vtac is the same except for the rail hole/vent shape.

Installed the hand guard today. Everything went very smoothly and it is mounted very solidly. Just to make sure, I put blue lok-tite on all the fasteners after installing for fit and alignment.
