Here are pictures of a K-38 heavy Masterpiece box. One of the weird things is it contained a Colt Bisley 45 caliber made in 1910 that came down from my great grandfather through 4 generations of women who never had sons and the one from my generation wanted me to have it.

I have a model of 1905 with a round butt but this really has little value to me. Note that what I suspect is the serial number is written on the bottom of the box. On the off chance that that gun is out there on this forum, I would give it to them. Others can post their reasons for wanting it with details. Folks who can drive to the Georgetown/Liberty Hill area will get preference.

Sir: I have two early Heavy Barrel K-38s that would love to rest in that box. Sorry the drive from Arizona is a little far. I would gladly pay for the box and postage.

You should be aware S&W gun boxes are worth money to S&W collectors. The S&W revolver that it held was made about 60 years ago and I would guess there is a fair amount of value if the rest of the box is in as good condition as the end label area. You can get some idea of values of these boxes by searching Gunbroker.com

I understand and applaud that you would be willing to pass it along to the owner of the matching serial number revolver, but to those who might want something of value for nothing is another story. Best of luck on finding the gun and its owner.

Thanks for posting pics of box and your desire to find original owner.
I have an early 1950 model and have been looking for this box for sometime.
If you decide to sell it down the road please give me a shot and name your price.
Here is my K38 with it's Target hammer and stocks.

I don't have a gun or need for that box, but I can tell you if you want to "give back" to someone who has helped other Forum members, "VM" would be a great choice.
Mike is good people and a real asset to this Forum. He has help me on numerous occasions with various S&W needs, and I'm sure he's done the same for others here. I can tell you he'd be very deserving of your generosity :)

Mike,

Your gun seems to be a perfect match with the target hammer and stocks. I'm going to give it a few more days in hopes that the matching gun owner shows up.

Amen to what this man said.

Reblued?

Yes, after research I concluded that it had been reblued. It was shipped 12/10/1910 and my great grandfather died in 1930. I have no idea if he was the original purchaser or not. When I got it in 2010, it was in the S&W box and fully loaded with 6 rounds of vintage ammo.
It was passed down through my great grandmother and a line of women who never had a son.
My distant cousin wanted me to have it (I am the oldest male descentant ) and contacted my Mother to see if I would want it, DUH.
If you see it for sale I am dead.

I vote VM.......

hdougn, Should you decide on VM and somewhere down the road the "original owner" contacts you, I know Mike would want them to have it! He would find a way to make it right for all parties involved. He's that kind of person.

Do you have any other boxes? I'm a nice guy too! How about a purple one marked "357"? I'd even take the one with the 38 S&W spur trigger pictured on the top? How about just a K22/40 box? I'm easy to please.

That was very nice of you to give the box to VM - I'm sure VM wasn't sure he'd ever find one. The gun is nice, and so is the box - perfect.
