I know you guys and gals about my age know what fried pies are. I just polished off 1/2 of one, my MBH (much better half) got the other.

I was out looking for a set of scope mounts when the phone rang, it was my Wife. A lady at the church had called and told her to come by, she had just finished cooking fried pies. When I got back we went by and I'm telling you, they were worth the trip.

They had sold almost 2 hundred at a church fund raiser and we were out of town, so we didn't get any.

It's a good thing she only gave us 3 or I would have the belly ache in a little while.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

You could fry my dogs lawn chocolates and it'd probably taste good! Put tabasco on it and it'll taste great!! :D

Not fried but about the same ..

Those sandwich fire irons we used to make pies with when camping .. cut the crust off 2 slices of bread and lather with butter place in iron and fill with any filling you would like .. close and hold over open flame till toasted and hot .. remove and sprinkle sugar or cinnamon/sugar over the top .. Blueberry is my wife's favorite and cherry mine ..

Add a piece of chocolate for an added surprise in the middle ..

When I lived in FL, SC and NC, I was introduced to the wonderful world of fried dessert pies (England was all about meat pies). I can't find ones up here quite as good as those.

Peach was my favourite.

My favorite also. My grandmother used to make those for us when we came for a visit. Haven't seen one since about 1955.

Being north of the Mason Dixon, fried apple pies are not on the menu anywhere near me. I was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama for a while and I recall them fondly from local eateries. At home up north the closest we could get were the deep fried apple pies from McDonalds..... all bubbly and crispy. I miss those things. The baked ones just don't cut it.

Whataburger still fries their pies.

They seem to be a southern thing. The ones I had were in central TX. They weren't to be found in the SW where I grew up.

Most of the little stores around here (the Blue Ridge mountains of Southwest Virginia) sell fried pies that a local lady makes. Mostly apple, but peach, cherry and blueberry show up too.

For those that don't know, a traditional fried pie starts as a 6"- 8" circle of dough. Dried fruit is added and then the dough is folded over, making a half moon. The edges are crimped with a fork and then the pie is fried.

Good, good, good!

Rusty, come on up to Johnstown, Ohio. Troyer's Market carries fry pies from an Amish bakery. When not sold out they carry about 15 to 20 flavors.

Then if you get on into Amish country, there are fry pies for sale everywhere!

I owe about 30 pounds of the man I am to fry pies!
