Fried Apple Pies

Did she make Blackberry Cobbler?
You usually have to be out in the boondocks where I'm from to get that delicacy.

Oh yeah, Mom did, and the best Fig preserves. :)
We lived out in the county after Dad had his 30 years in the Army.
There was no county HS then so I had to drive into Gulfport to go to high school.

Hey, don't knock those peach fried pies until you have tried them. You know almost any fruit will be good.
I do love peach cobbler, sweet potato, blueberry, and blackberry cobbler. We had fig preserves last Saturday morning for breakfast with homemade biscuits, eggs and sausage. Finger licking good. :-)

Have a blessed day,

Leon

There's a Mennonite bakery the next county over, about 15 miles down the highway. It's worth the trip to get their fried pies. They do blueberry, apple, chocolate, raspberry, apricot and blackberry that I know of. I only get blackberry and the wife gets chocolate.

Every manner and flavor of homemade bread you can think of, fresh meat and cheese, raw milk, local honey, folks come from two counties away to get their goods. They've even expanded their place to include a sitdown lunch room with all manner of sandwiches, soups, or a meat and three.

Next best place around here is the Methodist church fundraising dinners. Oh boy, them Methodist ladies can cook. Still have 3 quarts of rabbit stew in the freezer from the last one.

When I was stationed at Ft. Campbell we used to go to some Mennonite shops in Kentucky. Nice people and great food. :)

I know about those Methodist ladies, I've been married to one for 49 years. :) :) :) :)

The Knaus Berry Farm down Homestead way opens Nov. - April since the 50's.
I don't think they do fried pies but their baked goods, esp. the sticky buns are to die for.
Great U-Pick fields to boot. Day trip coming soon.

Couple brothers came from Missouri to work the building boom in the 20's but the hurricane of 1926 returned them to their roots in farming. I always thought the group at the farm was Amish but they are church of the Brethren (Dunkers).
Great place that has become wildly popular.

I grew up in a Methodist church.
Make a joyful noise and pass the pancakes!

Methodist here as well. My Grandmother was also a great cook. Her corn soufflé was one of my favorites to eat when I spent the weekends with her. I never tired of that dish.

We had Golden Deliscious apple trees and peach trees in our garden area when I was a boy. Mom made fried pies of each. Man, were they great. Years later, she fried them in Butter flavored Crisco, made them even better!
