Tried my hand at Fry Bread.

"Lard" has become a four-letter word since I married my Kosher Jewish wife nearly 39 years ago. However, schmaltz (rendered goose or chicken fat) is fairly common in Jewish cuisine, though not high on my list.
Your fry bread looks tasty, John!

Growing up Crisco was a food group...my mother was a SC farm girl and southern cook that couldn't be beat. But around here, this fried bread your talking about is called fried dough. Its dough rolled flat and thin as big around as a plate and deep fried. Then its covered with tomato sauce and grated parmesan. Its a country fair staple and delicious.

Goose fat is the NUTS! even better than bacon fat for making cottage fries etc.
