I have found LARD in some stores here in Indiana my wife made the absolute best pie crust with lard,I have found that bacon drippings work well as a cutting lube when tapping (cutting) threads .
"Lard" has become a four-letter word since I married my Kosher Jewish wife nearly 39 years ago. However, schmaltz (rendered goose or chicken fat) is fairly common in Jewish cuisine, though not high on my list.
