Froglube

Anyone use Froglube on their firearms? If so what is your opinion of it

Perhaps we need a "lubrication and cleaning" forum....

Froglube is just as good as the other clp products that are available.....except it's three times as expensive.

When properly applied, it makes part very slippery. One must remember to remove all the excess because it will melt and run whre one doesn't want it to go. Some have complained about it causing problems in cold weather while others in cold areas report no issues at all. I suspect it is a matter of using too much and leaving excess to run off. FL is not a case of more is better.

I've used it for the last year on my Glock 30 with no issues. It provides superior rust resistance (as if a Glock needs it). I also use it on my Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit and have fewer issues than before when using standard gun oils.

Yeah, it's expensive, but so far it's lived up to all its claims. And a small container lasts a looong time.

Mobile1 10w-30 mixed 3:1 with ATF, works just as well and is a whole lot cheaper.

The reason why I'm looking at useing something other than a petro based lube . The wife and I just recieved our carry permits and she is afraid of staining her clothes and she does not like the smell of some of the petro lubes we use on our firearms . And froglube seems to be something that could fill that bill . Any ideas or commets ?

Ballistol is a great product and is mineral based.

Somewhere on this forum, there is at least one massive thread about Froglube. I was going to provide a link to the thread, but I got tired of searching.

There were three primary conclusions to be drawn from the thread:

1. A whole lot of people who use it love it.

2. A whole lot of people used it, were totally dissatisfied with it, and swore never to use the stuff again.

3. A whole lot of people are satisfied with what they're already using (whatever it might be), and have no intention of trying the Next Big Thing just because it's the Next Big Thing...whether it's Froglube, Beelube, Snakelube, or whatever.

I happen to fall into the third category.

I recall back in the late 80's and early 90's the automotive STP oil treatment (which was advertised as as so slippery you couldn't hold onto a screwdriver blade dipped into it) was commonly used as a sear lube, and worked well. Then several competitors thought why not on the slide, trigger etc. Then the weather changed and the temperature dropped and several competitors guns would not function at all as the straight STP was so thick it was like glue. I haven't heard of anyone using it n a long time.

I use it and like it very much. However, I'm not as crazy about their cleaning solution, it sometimes doesn't seem strong enough. When you use the Froglube, it almost feels like you have coated the gun with Telflon. It is not sticky or greasy and it really seems to protect the gun when shooting and afterwards you can wipe a lot of the powder off with a clean cloth. It's also great to work with and doesn't harm your hands. I had a friend who was skeptical of my claims but after using it he swears he won't use anything else. A lot of people complain about the price but you don't have to reapply it every time you shoot so maybe they don't know that. Try it, you'll love it. Regards, Jim
