I just started to shoot IDPA and Steel Challenge with my M&P40. I'm an older shooter, 68, and wear progressive lenses. When I changed out the 40 sights for Dawson (black rear, FO front) I really debated on the front/rear post/notch width. The stock are .130/.140, respectively. I went with .115/.135 and I'm really happy with the added light around the front post. FWIW, I'm 6' tall with pretty long arms, the latter factor somewhat cutting down on the angular difference between front and rear.
I wonder what others are using for competition? My sense is that doubling the light around the front post will make for a faster, good enough sight picture for action pistol competition. I'm holding off on any raves for the fiber optic; the FO front sight on my M&P 22 (Dawson) works well under certain lighting conditions, not so much under others - to be expected.
