Just shot my new S & W MP 15-22 MOE version, came with the MBUS flip up sights.
Found the rifle shooting 4 inches low at 25 yards off to the left 3 1/2 inches. Made adjustments to the rear sight got it close to being on,problem is the front sight is impossible to turn with just my fingers, just to tight, got back home tried to use a small set of pliers to raise the sight pin up,still found it really hard to move, did manage to turn the sight up some,my question is there a tool made to adjust this front sight? I sprayed the sight with a little silcone lube to aid in turning.Did not want to scuff up the sight pin using the pliers.
Any suggestions from anyone would be helpful.

I'm not sure how the flip sights work, but the standard 15-22 front sight has a detent you have to press to allow the sight to turn. That's it at the top.

Since this is a M16 sight system the detent is designed to be pressed with the tip of a 5.56mm bullet, not a .22LR.

Thanks for the reply, I will look at the sight again to day.My sight is not the standard sight, gun a came with Magpul sight (MBUS)
Directions quote - To adjust elevation(up-down point of impact) use A2 Front sight Adjustment Tool.Turn sight post knob in direction indicated to move POI up. Reverse direction to move down. Each POI~1-7/8 in.at 100 meters When position is found, insert spring pin to lock into place. That why I was wandering if there was a tool to adjust sight pin.
I just googled A2 sight adjustment and found that there is a tool to adjust this sight pin.

I couldn't find any positive reviews on one so I didn't buy yet. Do you count how many turns it takes to remove the post if you switch it out?

you can also use a small nail to hold down the sight pin and carefully turn the sight with needle nose pliers

All that four prong "tool" does is depress the detent. Save your money. Once you're zeroed you're zeroed.

So it doesn't help turn/unthread the post out? If I had to do it with something else lke tweezers that would be a real pointless tool

If you are just going to zero the rifle with the current front sight post, you don't need to invest the few bucks on the sight tool. You just need to depress the dentent pin with the tip of a .223/5.56 round (or the tip of a small phillips head screwdriver if you don't have any of those), and use it to turn the base of the post in the correct direction for adjustment. Once you've zeroed the rifle, all your adjustments are made at the rear sight.

If you're experimenting with alternative sighting methods (eg. Improved Battlesight Zero) and need to replace the front post with a taller or shorter post, then the tool will help A LOT.

Again does it turn out the post? I want to change to put a .034 post in.

On my magpul sights you need to remove the 1/16 allen setscrew then you can turn the post. I use a nail to turn mine. Mine had to go up quite a bit to get to the proper elevation setting. When I get home and have access to my rifle I'll post a few pics.

Weird..I get mine started with my nail and then I just grip the whole thing with my index and thumb and can easily adjust it up and down. I forgot if it was really stiff the first time like my rear sight but right now it's very easy to do, definitely don't need a tool to help.

if the rear optic is zero'd then, say on a baraska,, is the front sight necessary?
isn't that just point, center, shoot?
