Front Sight Installation Problem

I recently purchased a standard 500 magnum with the interchangeable front sight. I like the partridge sight it came with but I also wanted a sight for when the light is a bit low. So, I bought an SDM fiber optic sight that was for the interchangeable models.

Here's my problem. I cannot for the life of me get the thing to work. I can take the regular front sight in and out with no problems but I just can't seem to get the SDM sight to work. I don't know what the problem is.

Is there anything I should be doing to fit the sight to the gun? I thought all the interchangeable sights would just fit right in.

Thanks for your help.

Probably the long dimension of the portion of the sight that fits into the groove is a little too long. Fitting might be necessary before it will snap in. This is just a guess from my experience with this type of sight system.

I put one on a 627 and it is real tight. I had to give it a little incentive with a plastic hammer! It was difficult to remove, but it came out without tools, so was just a little too big.

I hear you

Austinkroe - I'm having the same problem with my SDM and Hi-Viz sights and know what you're going through. How did you fix it?
